The prevalence of hypertension in Japan remains high, owing to the high salt content of the typical Japanese diet. Dairy-based foods may reduce blood pressure and hypertension risk. However, dairy consumption is low in Japan, and the relationships between dairy intake and blood pressure or the mechanisms by which dairy products affect blood pressure are not fully understood.

Piezo2 is a mechanosensitive cation channel and plays a major role in various biological and pathophysiological phenomena. We previously reported Piezo2 expression in mouse and rat kidneys and its alteration by dehydration and hypertension.

In the experiments, the reaction between sympathetically cooled N ions embedded in laser-cooled Ca Coulomb crystals and velocity-selected acetonitrile molecules generated using a wavy Stark velocity filter was studied to determine the reaction rate coefficients. Capture rate coefficients calculated by the Su-Chesnavich approach and by the perturbed rotational state theory considering the rotational state distribution of CHCN were compared to the experimental rate coefficients.

Although the usefulness of myelin measurement with synthetic MRI has been reported for assessing several diseases, investigations in patients with stroke have not been reported. We aimed to explore the utility of myelin quantification using synthetic MRI in predicting outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Objectives: This study sought to assess the incidence and prognostic impact of PPM after TAVR for bicuspid AS compared with that for tricuspid AS.
Methods: In total, 7,393 patients who underwent TAVR were prospectively enrolled in the OCEAN-TAVI (Optimized Catheter Valvular Intervention Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) registry, an ongoing Japanese, multicenter registry.
Recent rapid sea ice reduction in the Pacific sector of the Arctic Ocean is potentially associated with inflow of Pacific-origin water via the Bering Strait. For the first time, we detected remarkable subsurface warming around the Chukchi Borderland in the Arctic Ocean over the recent two decades (i.e.

We present a case of robot-assisted complex anatomical segmentectomy utilizing Resection Process Map (RPM) software. RPM enables the confirmation of internal structures obscured by lung parenchyma, thereby reducing the risk of injury or misidentification to essential structures. It facilitates an accurate understanding of anatomy beyond processed vessels, fostering collaboration among the surgical team and informed discussions.

Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a neurologic disorder, some cases of which are associated with malignant disease. Here, we report a case of thymoma-associated SPS that was successfully treated with surgical resection. A 57-year-old man with progressive muscle stiffness and weakness was diagnosed with thymoma-related SPS.

The intraoperative findings of robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery led to the diagnosis of extralobar pulmonary sequestration (EPS), with multiple vessels connecting to the pulmonary artery and superior pulmonary vein. EPS, an extremely rare condition, is typically supplied with blood from the aorta.

Peribronchiolar metaplasia usually appears as ground glass nodules or sub-solid nodules on computed tomography. However, we present an exceptional case of peribronchiolar metaplasia that appeared as a solitary solid nodule on computed tomography.

Aim: The Japanese National Clinical Database, which covers more than 95% of the surgeries performed in Japan, is the largest nationwide database. This is the 2021 annual report of the Gastroenterological Section of the National Clinical Database, which aims to present the short-term outcomes of cases registered in 2021 and discuss significant changes and insights into gastroenterological surgeries observed over the decade.
Methods: We reviewed the data of patients registered in the National Clinical Database between 2012 and 2021.
We performed a systems vaccinology analysis to investigate immune responses in humans to an H5N1 influenza vaccine, with and without the AS03 adjuvant, to identify factors influencing antibody response magnitude and durability. Our findings revealed a platelet and adhesion-related blood transcriptional signature on day 7 that predicted the longevity of the antibody response, suggesting a potential role for platelets in modulating antibody response durability. As platelets originate from megakaryocytes, we explored the effect of thrombopoietin (TPO)-mediated megakaryocyte activation on antibody response longevity.

High-dose melphalan (HDM) conditioning has been the recommended treatment regimen for a long time. No other conditioning regimen has been proven safer and more effective.

Artificial intelligence (AI) can quantitatively evaluate histopathological findings. The aim was to measure NS in ESCC using AI and elucidate its clinical significance.

In this case report, a psoriasiform eruption appeared on the face and extremities following the onset of KD. A review of previous reports identified 38 cases of psoriasiform eruptions following KD, typically appearing 4 days to 2 months after the onset of KD, unlike other skin manifestations associated with the disease.

Background: Although multidisciplinary treatment is standard for locally advanced RC, understanding surgical efficacy is important for determining indications for perioperative adjuvant therapy.
Methods: RC patients who underwent upfront surgery at the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum institutions were analyzed.
To explore the potential efficacy of early initiation of intravenous cyclophosphamide (IVCPA), we reviewed consecutive four cases of super-refractory cryptogenic-new onset refractory status epilepticus (C-NORSE) between 2015 and 2023. We compared functional outcomes at 3 months and 1 year after the onset between patients who received IVCPA within 20 days (early-treated) and those who received it later (late-treated). All patients (median age: 43 years) had a prodromal fever.

This study aimed to evaluate the association of baseline MVA with procedural and clinical outcomes in patients undergoing TEER with MitraClip from the OCEAN-Mitral registry (Optimized Catheter Valvular Intervention-Mitral).
Methods: A total of 1768 patients undergoing TEER were divided into 3 groups according to baseline MVA: group 1: <4.
Background: Epicardial stenosis and coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) may coexist in patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). Microvascular resistance reserve (MRR) has been demonstrated to be a valid cross-modality metric using continuous saline infusion thermodilution and intracoronary Doppler flow velocity methods. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and diagnostic concordance of CMD defined by MRR using two methods-stress transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (S-TDE) and the invasive bolus thermodilution method (B-Thermo)-in patients with functionally significant epicardial stenosis.

Although myelin damage has been pathologically identified in ALS, it has not been clinically evaluated. This study aimed to quantify myelin volume using synthetic MRI to evaluate myelin damage in patients with ALS, and determine its association with clinical parameters.
