Bilateral congenital cholesteatoma (BCC) is rare among congenital cholesteatoma (CC) cases, and bilateral surgery poses a significant psychophysical burden on pediatric patients. Here, we present 2 pediatric cases of BCC that were successfully managed using simultaneous bilateral transcanal endoscopic ear surgery (TEES). The surgical approach provided clear visualization of the middle ear structures, enabling successful cholesteatoma removal with minimal invasiveness and a short operative time.

Time-resolved spectroscopy revealed that dynamic photochemical quenching occurred via a diffusion-dominated pathway. The static quenching process was found to occur significantly when the concentration of ethylene glycol was greater than 40 wt%.

These molecules interact with cells, ice crystals, and lipid bilayers to enhance their functionality. Previous studies typically measured these interactions by thawing frozen samples and conducting biological assays at room temperature; however, studying these interactions under cryogenic conditions is crucial.

Methods: A murine SCC cell line, KLN205, was infected with adenoviral vector carrying B7-1 (AdB7). Infected cells were injected subcutaneously in the flanks of DBA/2 mice.
Therma-Max™ LSA Streptavidin is a thermoresponsive magnetic nanoparticle (TMNP). It can be introduced conveniently to molecular recognition groups by avidin-biotin interaction. In this study, we demonstrated the detection of nickel(II) ions by the magnetic separation of TMNP induced by their phase transition under microflow.

Seventeen-one consecutive patients who were treated for EACSCC at Kobe University Hospital from 1995 to 2018 were enrolled in this study. The expression of EGFR, and p16 were evaluated and their impacts on oncological outcomes were statistically analyzed.

Dynamic and static quenching behaviors were analyzed by comparing results from time-resolved spectroscopy and emission spectroscopy. While the dynamic quenching reaction aligns well with the E-S theory, static quenching was observed, leading to a notable increase in the overall photoquenching reaction rate constant.

Although bilateral cochlear implantation (CI) offers several benefits, concerns arise regarding the risk of bilateral postoperative vestibular dysfunction with simultaneous CI. This study aimed to longitudinally evaluate changes in vestibular function in adult patients who underwent simultaneous bilateral CI using minimally invasive electrodes and surgical techniques.

Although tumor cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) promote osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption, their roles in osteoblast differentiation and functions have not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the effects of breast cancer cell-derived EVs on osteoblast differentiation and functions in vitro.

The elemental mapping analysis showed that the mixing state of the elements in the NPs drastically changed in the narrow reaction-temperature range from 100 °C to 180 °C. For their various mixing states, the 5d-states of Au and Pt atoms in the alloy NPs were investigated on the basis of the white line intensities of X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES).

The width of the ice grain boundaries formed in frozen aqueous solutions could be altered by controlling the operating temperature. A freezing chamber was placed adjacent to the microfluidic channel.

We retrospectively evaluated the efficacy, adverse events, and feasibility of TPF-CCRT (concomitant chemoradiotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil) in patients with advanced EACSCC.

Background: Isosorbide, an osmotic diuretic, is used orally as a typical conservative therapy for Menière's disease (MD) in Japan. The dehydration effect occurs 6 hours after isosorbide ingestion.
Background: Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a pruritic, painful, recurrent, and chronic dermatitis with limited therapeutic options.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of apremilast for the treatment of Japanese patients with PPP and inadequate response to topical treatment.
Methods: This phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled patients with Palmoplantar Pustulosis Area and Severity Index (PPPASI) total score ≥ 12 and moderate or severe pustules/vesicles on the palm or sole (PPPASI pustule/vesicle severity score ≥ 2) at screening and baseline with an inadequate response to topical treatment.
Acquisition protocol of absorption spectra at nanoliter spaces from the RGB values preserved in video data at 10 ms intervals was established using the principal-component-analysis-based RGB-conversion method. Proton behavior was monitored using a camera to acquire the video footage to monitor colorimetric change in the nanoliter space. The RGB values observed in the video were converted into a score vector using a conversion matrix.

We synthesized two thermoresponsive polyelectrolytes: anionic poly(-isopropylacrylamide--(3-sulfopropyl)acrylamide potassium) (P-NIP-SPAK) and cationic poly(-isopropylacrylamide--(3-acrylamidepropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) (P-NIP-AAPTAC). The polyelectrolytes remained soluble in their aqueous solutions even above the lower critical soluble temperature of P-NIP owing to the strong hydration property of the ionic groups.

It has an autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance and is caused by variants in the FAM111 trypsin-like peptidase A () gene. This disease is often difficult to diagnose due to a wide range of more common diseases manifesting hypoparathyroidism and short stature.

This study aimed to determine the clinical background and risk factors contributing to rebleeding in patients with AHRUS and the most appropriate method of hemostasis treatment.
Methods: This retrospective study included 93 patients diagnosed with AHRUS at Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital, Japan, between April 2009 and November 2018.
Aberrant osteoclast formation and activation are the hallmarks of osteolytic metastasis. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), released from bone metastatic tumor cells, play a pivotal role in the progression of osteolytic lesions. However, the mechanisms through which tumor cell-derived EVs regulate osteoclast differentiation and function have not been fully elucidated.
