Introduction: Spinal cord arteriovenous malformations (SCAVM) are rare congenital vascular malformations, characterized by two or more AVMs affecting any of the spinal segments. SCAVM has complex pathophysiology and may be associated with acute, or progressively neurological deficits.

Case Presentation: A 12-year old girl, presented with progressive neurologic deficits secondary to compressive cervical myelopathy due to a cervical metameric SCAVM.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the risk of neurological adverse events (NAEs) in pediatric patients with moyamoya angiopathy (MMA) undergoing general anesthesia for nonrevascularization procedures, as existing data on this topic is limited.
  • - Conducted at a pediatric center from 2014 to 2023, the study found a very low incidence of NAEs (0.67%) among 149 procedures, with only one case of acute arterial ischemic stroke after a surgical revision.
  • - The results indicate that general anesthesia, especially when combined with preprocedural hyperhydration, is generally safe for these patients, providing reassurance for families regarding the risks associated with such procedures.

Background: Vascular calcifications are a hallmark of atherosclerosis, and in the coronary arteries are routinely used as a prognostic marker. Calcifications of intracranial vessels (ICC) are frequently observed on non-contrast CT (NCCT) and their effect on post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) remains unclear. Our aim was to explore the association of ICC with prospective long-term cognitive function and advanced MRI-measures in a large prospective cohort of cognitively intact mild stroke survivors.

Background: Collateral circulation is an important determinant of outcome in people with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (LVO).

Objective: To explore the impact of the circle of Willis (CW) anatomical characteristics ipsilateral to the occlusion site, particularly the posterior communicating artery (PComA) and the A1-portion of the anterior cerebral artery (A1-ACA), on stroke outcomes in a cohort of patients with LVO and middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion, undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study performed in a comprehensive tertiary stroke center.

Background: Current evidence suggest that 25%-33% of stroke-survivors develop post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). The licensed drug Maraviroc, a CCR5-antagonist, is postulated to act via a neuroprotective mechanism that may offer the potential of preventing progression to vascular dementia. Our hypothesis: Maraviroc may have the potential to augment learning skills and cognitive performance by affecting synaptic plasticity, along with neuro-inflammatory modulation in patients with cerebral small vessel disease (SVD) and PSCI.

Background: The effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion is time-dependent. While only stroke centers with endovascular capabilities perform MT, many patients who had a stroke initially present to the closest primary stroke centers capable of administering earlier intravenous thrombolysis, and then require to be transferred to a comprehensive stroke center for MT.

Purpose: To compare the outcomes of this care pathway (drip and ship (DS)) with that whereby patients are directly transferred to a comprehensive stroke center (mothership (MS)).

Objectives: Endovascular treatment of wide-neck intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is challenging, especially in bifurcation location. The intra-saccular flow-disruptor Woven EndoBridge (WEB) offers a new concept of endovascular therapy for wide-neck IAs. We performed an update of a systematic review aimed to report the feasibility, effectiveness and safety of WEB device therapy.

Introduction: Current treatment options for advanced esophagogastric cancer (AEGC) are still unsatisfactory. The aim of this prospective phase Ib/II study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a novel regimen, AVDCX, consisting of weekly docetaxel and cisplatin together with capecitabine and bevacizumab, in AEGC.

Methods: Patients with AEGC received treatment with different dose levels of AVDCX (cisplatin and docetaxel 25-35 mg/m2, days 1,8, capecitabine 1,600 mg/m2 days 1-14, bevacizumab 7.

Background And Purpose: Posterior communicating artery (PComA) aneurysm seems to behave uniquely compared with other intracranial aneurysms at different locations. The association between the morphology of the carotid siphon and PComA aneurysms is not well known. This study aimed to investigate whether the anatomical characteristics of the carotid siphon are associated with the formation and rupture of PComA aneurysms.
