Psychiatric Advance Directives (PADs) have been adopted in many jurisdictions around the world and in most Australian states and territories. They are seen as a less restrictive and patient-centered approach to the provision of mental health care. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is a restricted treatment in most jurisdictions in Australia and across the world.

A systematic review of modified electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to treat delirium.

Background: Delirium is costly for patients, carers, and healthcare systems. In addition, non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of delirium is challenging. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been proposed and used as an anecdotal treatment of delirium in clinical practice.

Successful rechallenge with clozapine after treatment associated eosinophilia.

Objective: Eosinophilia has been associated with the use of clozapine. Where clozapine associated eosinophilia develops, and is associated with organ specific damage, clozapine is usually ceased. In cases of treatment associated eosinophilia without evidence of organ specific damage, clozapine would also typically be withdrawn.

Quetiapine-induced cervical dystonia.

Objective: Our objective was to report and describe a case of quetiapine-induced dystonia in an older lady with psychosis. Quetiapine is a second-generation antipsychotic and known to be rare in causing extrapyramidal side effects with rates similar to placebo.

Conclusions: There have been few documented cases of quetiapine-induced dystonia.
