Unlocking breast cancer in Brazilian public health system: Using tissue microarray for accurate immunohistochemical evaluation with limitations in subtyping.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a significant burden on healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries where access to diagnosis and treatment is challenging.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy and cost using tissue microarray (TMA) instead of traditional immunohistochemical (IHC) evaluation for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), and the proliferation marker Ki-67 and BC subtyping within the Brazilian public health system.

Design: This is a retrospective cohort study comparing TMA slides with traditional whole-slide evaluation for IHC markers in 242 BC cases.

Development of a phosphorous-based biorefinery process for producing lignocellulosic functional materials from coconut wastes.

This work aimed to develop a phosphorous-based biorefinery process for obtaining phosphorylated lignocellulosic fractions in a one-pot protocol from coconut fiber. Natural coconut fiber (NCF) was mixed with 85 % m/m HPO at 70 °C for 1 h to yield the modified coconut fiber (MCF), aqueous phase (AP), and coconut fiber lignin (CFL). MCF was characterized by its TAPPI, FTIR, SEM, EDX, TGA, WCA, and P content.

Synchronous jawbone diseases: a multicenter retrospective study.

The aim of this study is to report an original case series of synchronous jawbone diseases. Data of patients seen over 13 years were extracted from the files of three Oral Radiology and Pathology diagnostic centers in Brazil. Effects of cardiotonic steroids on isolated perfused kidney and NHE3 activity in renal proximal tubules.

Cardiotonic steroids (CS) are known as modulators of sodium and water homeostasis. These compounds contribute to the excretion of sodium under overload conditions due to its natriuretic property related to the inhibition of the renal Na/K-ATPase (NKA) pump α1 isoform. NHE3, the main route for Na reabsorption in the proximal tubule, depends on the Na gradient generated by the NKA pump.

The effects of passive tobacco smoking on the microcirculation of the abdominal wall in rats.

Purpose:: To analysis the effects of passive smoking on the microstructure of tissues of the abdominal wall regarding microcirculation, using histopathological study of the tobacco exposed rats.

Methods:: Twenty four male Wistar rats were divided in Control Group (CG = 8 animals) and Exposition Groups (EG = 16 animals). EG was exposed to cigarette smoke 4x/day for 120 days, while CG was preserved from exposure.

Comparison between preoperative and intraoperative injection of (99m)Tc Dextran-500 for sentinel lymph node localization in breast cancer.

A retrospective study was conducted from a review of the medical records of patients with early-stage, invasive breast cancer who underwent surgical treatment and sentinel node biopsy with a radiotracer from January 2008 to August 2012 at a single institution (221 patients included). The patients were grouped according to the time of (99m)Tc Dextran-500 injection, which was preoperatively (with lymphoscintigraphy) (81 patients) or intraoperatively (140 patients). The purpose of the report is to compare the results of sentinel node biopsy of early-stage breast cancer patients who were subjected to intraoperative (99m)Tc Dextran-500 injections with the patients who received preoperative injections.

Ten ejaculates were collected from five dogs, evaluated fresh, diluted in ACP-106c, 10% egg yolk and 6% glycerol, cooled and frozen. In the first phase of the study, straws with frozen semen were thawed and immediately subjected to the same analysis as the fresh semen and, in addition, to Computer-Assisted Semen Analysis (CASA).

Twenty French Bulldog bitches were subjected to natural mating (NM) and, during the subsequent two estrus periods, were bred by intravaginal artificial insemination (AI), using chilled semen (from the same males) diluted in Tris-egg yolk (AI-Tris) or ACP-106c (AI-ACP-106c). Fresh semen was cooled to 5 °C and maintained at that temperature for 6 h, rewarmed (37 °C for 30 s), and used for AI.
