Here we show that PSGL-1 was also required for efficient homing of resting T cells to secondary lymphoid organs but functioned independently of selectin binding. PSGL-1 mediated an enhanced chemotactic T cell response to the secondary lymphoid organ chemokines CCL21 and CCL19 but not to CXCL12 or to inflammatory chemokines.

Materials And Methods: The background of TB patients was analyzed using the annual reports of TB registry for the period between 1987 and 2004. The population obtained from the national census, which was conducted every five years, was used for the calculation of TB incidence by specific occupation.
The paper presents a theoretical exercise regarding health care evaluation in an effort to define several concepts. The multi-dimensional aspects of quality in health are emphasized in addition to the differences between quality evaluation and qualitative evaluation. The implications of not distinguishing between these two concepts are also discussed.

The homing of lymphocytes to peripheral lymph nodes is initiated by an adhesive interaction between L-selectin on lymphocytes and peripheral node addressin (PNAd), a set of sialomucins displayed on high endothelial venules (HEVs) of lymph nodes. The monoclonal antibody MECA-79 reacts with the PNAd sialomucins by recognizing an N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc)-6-sulfated oligosaccharide, which overlaps with sialyl 6-sulfo Lewis X, the L-selectin recognition determinant. Two HEV-expressed sulfotransferases, GlcNAc6ST-1 and GlcNAc6ST-2, are essential for the expression of the MECA-79 epitope and L-selectin ligand activity on lymph-node HEVs.

An endoglucanase was purified to homogeneity from an alkaline culture broth of a strain isolated from seawater and identified here as Bacillus agaradhaerens JAM-KU023. The frontal ganglion of the silkworm (Bombyx mori) gives rise to a visceral nerve, branches of which include a pair of anterior cardiac nerves and a pair of the posterior cardiac nerves. Forward-fill of the visceral nerve with dextran labeled with tetramethyl rhodamine shows the anterior cardiac nerves innervate the anterior region of the dorsal vessel. Back-fill of the anterior cardiac nerves with Co(2+) and Ni(2+) ions and the fluorescent dye reveals that the cell bodies of two motor neurons are located in the frontal ganglion.

Here we generated mice deficient in both N-acetylglucosamine-6-O-sulfotransferase 1 (GlcNAc6ST-1) and GlcNAc6ST-2 and found that mutant mice had approximately 75% less homing of lymphocytes to the peripheral lymph nodes than did wild-type mice. Consequently, these mice had lower contact hypersensitivity responses than those of wild-type mice.

Setting: Nationwide tuberculosis (TB) registry in Japan, 1987-2002.
Objective: To clarify the trends of patient's delay (PD), doctor's delay (DD) and total delay (TD), their relation and factors associated with the delays.
Design: Longitudinal study on trends in delays.
TB mass screening for elementary and junior-high school pupils was revised in 2003 in Japan. Interview sheet with questionaires about past history of TB and BCG has been applied for all pupils to choose high risk groups for TB infection or TB diseases since 2003 April replacing previous mass-screening method with tuberculin test for first-grade pupils. We compare results of case-finding of school-children in 2001, 2002 and 2003 by the data of national TB surveillance system.
