Background: Early detection of cognitive decline, including mild cognitive impairment, is expected to provide a better prognosis. Several studies have suggested an association between periodontitis and mild cognitive impairment.
Objectives/design: To test the hypothesis that there is an association between severe periodontitis and mild cognitive impairment in community residents who participated in a dental health check-up program.
Background: This study aimed to assess the 1-year clinical outcomes and predictors of technical success in acute limb ischemia (ALI) treatment.
Methods: A sub-analysis of the REtroSpective multiCenter study of endovascUlar or surgical intErvention for ALI (RESCUE ALI) study involved 185 patients with ALI and technical success (n = 131) or failure (n = 54) treated via surgical, endovascular, or hybrid revascularization between January 2015 and August 2021. The primary endpoint was 1-year amputation-free survival (AFS), and the secondary endpoints included preoperative complications and 1-year reintervention.
Background: Despite its low sensitivity (approximately 30%), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) antigen is commonly utilized as a serum tumor marker for oral SCC (OSCC) in clinical settings. The objective of this research was to identify novel biomarkers for OSCC.
Methods: Initially, we performed microarray analysis to evaluate the gene expression signatures of primary OSCC and normal oral mucosal tissues.
Rapid on-site cytopathology evaluation (ROSE) has been considered an effective method to increase the diagnostic ability of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA); however, ROSE is unavailable in most institutes worldwide due to the shortage of cytopathologists. To overcome this situation, we created an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system (the ROSE-AI system), which was trained with the augmented data to evaluate the slide images acquired by EUS-FNA. This study aimed to clarify the effects of such data-augmentation on establishing an effective ROSE-AI system by comparing the efficacy of various data-augmentation techniques.

Although foot perfusion status seems to be important for wound healing, the Global Limb Anatomic Staging System (GLASS) of the Global Vascular Guidelines does not include pedal artery status for the staging process due to the lack of sufficient evidence of its importance. This study aimed to clarify the importance of pedal perfusion status after bypass surgery.

Indigo carmine is commonly used to evaluate lesions during GI endoscopy. We aimed to establish the utility of virtual indigo carmine chromoendoscopy (VICI) converted from POCS images using artificial intelligence.

We report a case of NOMI developed during bioradiotherapy (BRT) with cetuximab for cervical lymph node metastasis of tongue cancer. The patient was a 73-year-old man who underwent right radical neck dissection for neck lymph node metastasis after tongue cancer surgery.

In this study, we focused on the microRNAs (miRNAs) involved in the expression of numerous genes and explored those associated with latent cervical LNM in early OSCC (eOSCC). First, microarray and RT-PCR analyses revealed a significant downregulation of miR-375-3p expression in primary eOSCC tissues with latent cervical LNM.

In addition, the DLP printer has good resolution and print quality, which makes it possible to print complex structures with a customized shape, being used for various purposes ranging from jewelry application to biomedical and pharmaceutical areas. The big disadvantage of DLP is the lack of a biocompatible and non-toxic resin on the market.

Peroral direct cholangioscopy (PDCS) enables direct observation of the bile duct and is useful for detecting and removing residual stones; however, its effectiveness is not clearly established in this clinical context.
Methods: This single-center, single-arm, prospective study included 44 patients with IHBD who underwent bowel reconstruction with HJ during the study period.
The Indigo Aspiration System (Penumbra Ltd., Alameda, CA, USA), a catheter-based device intended for the endovascular removal of clots from peripheral arteries and veins, was launched in Japan to treat acute limb ischemia after the cessation of urokinase sales. The initial application of this system in Japan was on a 96-year-old male patient.

We identified a novel nucleic acid-mediated therapeutic target against gallbladder cancer by using innovative organoid-based gallbladder cancer models generated from ; mice. Using comprehensive microRNA expression analyses and a bioinformatics approach, we identified significant microRNA-34a-5p downregulation in both murine gallbladder cancer organoids and resected human gallbladder cancer specimens.

Additionally, no useful prognostic markers are available. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between serum Interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels and prognosis and explore its local and systemic effects in patients with OSCC.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, multicenter study in Japan between April and June 2013, enrolling patients aged 20 years or older with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of ≤15 mL/min/1.73 m2.
Chordoma is a rare tumor that arises from chordal tissue during fetal life. Recently, the concept of poorly differentiated chordoma, a subtype of chordoma characterized by loss of / with a poorer prognosis than conventional chordomas, was established. It predominantly occurs in children and is rare in adults.

While the location and number of tumor nodules is helpful in diagnosing cases, differential diagnosis may be difficult even with histopathological examination. Therefore, we attempted to identify molecules that can facilitate accurate differential diagnosis.

Among these complications, there are serious ones like needle tract seeding (NTS), and it is not known than which types of tumors have the risks of EUS-FNA/B complications. This study aimed to evaluate the risk of EUS-FNA/B complications in patients with PDAC, focusing on morphological features.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between May 2017 and December 2020 at an academic center.
Recently, numerous tumor-suppressive microRNAs (TS-miRs) have been identified in human malignancies. Here, we attempted to identify novel TS-miRs in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). First, we transfected human OSCC cells individually with 968 synthetic miRs mimicking human mature miRs individually, and the growth of these cells was evaluated using the WST-8 assay.
