Rapid on-site cytopathology evaluation (ROSE) has been considered an effective method to increase the diagnostic ability of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA); however, ROSE is unavailable in most institutes worldwide due to the shortage of cytopathologists. To overcome this situation, we created an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system (the ROSE-AI system), which was trained with the augmented data to evaluate the slide images acquired by EUS-FNA. This study aimed to clarify the effects of such data-augmentation on establishing an effective ROSE-AI system by comparing the efficacy of various data-augmentation techniques.

Objective: In the treatment of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), complete wound healing is an important goal. Although foot perfusion status seems to be important for wound healing, the Global Limb Anatomic Staging System (GLASS) of the Global Vascular Guidelines does not include pedal artery status for the staging process due to the lack of sufficient evidence of its importance. This study aimed to clarify the importance of pedal perfusion status after bypass surgery.

Background And Aims: Accurately diagnosing biliary strictures is crucial for surgical decisions, and although peroral cholangioscopy (POCS) aids in visual diagnosis, diagnosing malignancies or determining lesion margins via this route remains challenging. Indigo carmine is commonly used to evaluate lesions during GI endoscopy. We aimed to establish the utility of virtual indigo carmine chromoendoscopy (VICI) converted from POCS images using artificial intelligence.

Nonocclusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI) causes mesenteric ischemia and intestinal necrosis despite the absence of organic obstruction, such as thrombi and emboli in mesenteric blood vessels, and it has an extremely poor prognosis. We report a case of NOMI developed during bioradiotherapy (BRT) with cetuximab for cervical lymph node metastasis of tongue cancer. The patient was a 73-year-old man who underwent right radical neck dissection for neck lymph node metastasis after tongue cancer surgery.

No clinically useful predictors of latent cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) in early oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are available. In this study, we focused on the microRNAs (miRNAs) involved in the expression of numerous genes and explored those associated with latent cervical LNM in early OSCC (eOSCC). First, microarray and RT-PCR analyses revealed a significant downregulation of miR-375-3p expression in primary eOSCC tissues with latent cervical LNM.

The digital light processing (DLP) printer has proven to be effective in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, as its printing method does not induce shear and a strong temperature on the resin. In addition, the DLP printer has good resolution and print quality, which makes it possible to print complex structures with a customized shape, being used for various purposes ranging from jewelry application to biomedical and pharmaceutical areas. The big disadvantage of DLP is the lack of a biocompatible and non-toxic resin on the market.

Background And Aims: The difficulty in radiographic confirmation of the presence of stones remains challenging in the treatment of intrahepatic bile duct (IHBD) stones in patients after hepaticojejunostomy (HJ). Peroral direct cholangioscopy (PDCS) enables direct observation of the bile duct and is useful for detecting and removing residual stones; however, its effectiveness is not clearly established in this clinical context.

Methods: This single-center, single-arm, prospective study included 44 patients with IHBD who underwent bowel reconstruction with HJ during the study period.

Oral squamous cell carcinomas unusually show distant metastasis to the lung after primary treatment, which can be difficult to differentiate from primary squamous cell carcinoma of the lung. While the location and number of tumor nodules is helpful in diagnosing cases, differential diagnosis may be difficult even with histopathological examination. Therefore, we attempted to identify molecules that can facilitate accurate differential diagnosis.
