The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of molecular-based LTPs serum sIgE for the diagnosis of food allergies in patients with suspected allergy to one of the LTPs-containing foods. Cohort, prospective or retrospective cross-sectional studies were considered for inclusion in this review. Oral food challenge (both open and double-blind placebo-controlled) was the reference standard for the diagnosis.

The safety of carotenoid supplements was evaluated in vitro on human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) adenocarcinoma A549 cells by the administration of three different oleoresins containing lycopene and other lipophilic phytochemicals, such as tocochromanols. The oleoresins, obtained by the supercritical CO green extraction technology from watermelon (Lyc W), gấc(Lyc G) and tomato (Lyc T) and chlatrated in α-cyclodextrins, were tested in comparison to synthetic lycopene (Lyc S), by cell cycle, Annexin V-FITC/PI, clonogenic test, Mytosox, intracellular ROS, Western Blot for NF-kB and RT-PCR and ELISA for IL-8.

Panallergens are proteins that take part in key processes of organisms and, therefore, are ubiquitously distributed with highly conserved sequences and structures. One class of these panallergens is composed of the tropomyosins. The highly heat-stable tropomyosins comprise the major allergens in crustaceans and mollusks, which make them important food allergens in exposed populations.

Based on the cross-reactivity between pollen lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) and the peach LTP, Pru p 3, it has been suggested that the pollen might initiate the LTP sensitization process. To establish whether LTP allergy can be considered as a pollen-food syndrome. The literature was reviewed and new data of component-resolved diagnosis from Italy obtained by both ISAC immunoassay and ImmunoCAP on large populations of LTP hypersensitive patients were provided and analyzed.

Background And Objectives: Peach gibberellin-regulated protein (peamaclein) has recently emerged as a relevant food allergen in cypress pollen-hypersensitive patients. Objective: We investigated monosensitization to peamaclein among Italian cypress pollen-allergic patients.
Material And Methods: A total of 835 cypress pollen-hypersensitive patients from 28 Italian allergy centers underwent a thorough work-up to determine food-allergic reactions and performed skin prick testing with a commercial peach extract containing peamaclein.
The goji berry ( L.) (GB) is gaining increasing attention with high consumption worldwide due to its exceptional nutritional value and medicinal benefits displayed in humans. Beyond their beneficial properties, GBs contain renowned allergenic proteins, and therefore deserve inclusion among the allergenic foods capable of inducing allergic reactions in sensitive consumers.

Diagnosis of anisakis allergy (AA) is based on the skin prick test (SPT) and specific IgE (sIgE) determination. Anyway, false positivity cases are due to cross reactivity with numerous allergens. The aim of the study was to evaluate the reliability of a comprehensive diagnostic algorithm for the AA.

Sensitization and allergy to shrimp among Italian house dust mite allergic patients are not well defined and were investigated in a large multicenter study. Shrimp sensitization and allergy were assessed in 526 house dust mite (HDM)-allergic patients submitted to the detection of IgE to Der p 10 and 100 atopic control not sensitized to HDM. Shrimp allergy occurred in 9% of patients (vs 0% of 100 atopic controls not sensitized to HDM; p minor 0.

Lipid Transfer Protein is the most frequent cause of food allergies in the Mediterranean area. The diagnosis based on allergenic extracts, suffers from a high variability in the results because some important allergenic molecules are lacking.

The development of recombinant technology supported the allergy diagnostic work-up in the daily clinical practice, representing a useful tool for epidemiological studies. An atlas of the IgE sensitization profiles found throughout Italy was prepared from a nationwide, multicenter, cross-sectional study. 6052 unselected consecutive individuals, belonging to North-West [NW], North-East [NE], Centre [C], South [S], and Islands subset [Is] were evaluated by means of the ImmunoCAP ISAC test.

Allergic reactions to Aedes communis (Ac) may be underestimated due to the lack of reliable diagnostic tools. In this multicenter study, 205 individuals reporting large local reactions to Ac were enrolled and studied for cutaneous or IgE reactivity to Ac, Blattella germanica, Penaeus monodon, and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus.

Methods: In this study, we assessed the serum levels of IL-33 and its s-ST2 receptor in 53 control patients (without allergic diseases), 47 peach (Pru p 3)-sensitized allergic patients (SAP), and in 68 non-Pru p 3-SAP. Basophil activation test (BAT) was used to assess the basophil activation due to allergen exposure before and after the addition of s-ST2 to the blood samples from 5 Pru p 3-SAP.

Physical inactivity is identified by World Health Organization as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Physical activity (PA) may contribute to limit FM accumulation, but little information is available on the interactions between habitual PA and body composition and their association with disease severity in asthma severity.

In order to estimate the risk assessment in peach allergy, we investigated the presence of correlations between the levels of sIgE to Pru p 3 with the severity of the clinical symptoms in two Pru p 3 positive populations from two different areas of Italy.
Methods: 133 consecutively Pru p 3 positive patients were recruited from South Italy, where the prevalence of PR-10 and profilin sensitization is low, and from North-East Italy, where the sensitization to pathogenesis related protein -10 (PR-10) and profilin is higher.
IL-33 targeting ST2 receptor (T1/ST2), expressed on Th2 cell surface, regulates the production of cytokines like IL-17A and IL-31. We studied the role of IL-33/ST2 axis in IL-31 and IL-17A production in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and with concomitant allergic asthma and rhinitis (AAR). 20 healthy control subjects (HC), 14 AR and 17 AAR subjects were recruited and blood samples collected.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of different allergen components using the full automatic singleplex quantitative platform Immulite™ 2000.
Methods: One hundred ninety-five allergic outpatients (35 to olive pollen, 35 to birch pollen, 35 to profilin, 35 to house dust mites, 35 to peach, and 20 to shrimp) and 20 negative controls were enrolled for the study.
Background: Increased activation and increased survival of T lymphocytes characterise bronchial asthma.
Objectives: In this study the effect of budesonide on T cell survival, on inducible co-stimulator T cells (ICOS), on Foxp3 and on IL-10 molecules in T lymphocyte sub-populations was assessed.
Methods: Cell survival (by annexin V binding) and ICOS in total lymphocytes, in CD4+/CD25+ and in CD4+/CD25- and Foxp3 and IL-10 in CD4+/CD25+ and in CD4+/CD25-cells was evaluated, by cytofluorimetric analysis, in mild intermittent asthmatics (n = 19) and in controls (n = 15).
Cigarette smoke extracts (CSE) alter TLR4 expression and activation in bronchial epithelial cells. Cilomilast, a phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor, inhibits cigarette smoke-induced neutrophilia. This study was aimed to explore whether cilomilast, in a human bronchial epithelial cell line (16-HBE), counteracted CSE effects.
