The frequency and clinical features of posttransplant pneumonia in solid-organ transplantation recipients: A transplant center experience.

Introduction: In solid-organ transplant (SOT) recipients, while survival rates have improved with immunosuppressive therapies, the risk of opportunistic infections has also increased. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of pneumonia, identify microbiological factors, investigate diagnostic methods, and analyse prognosis.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted to identify adult SOT recipients referred to the pulmonary diseases department with a preliminary pneumonia diagnosis between 2011 and 2019.

Comparison of a Commercial SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test with Real-Time PCR.

Objective: The study compared the mö-screen Corona Antigen Test (Qiagen, Germany) with RT-PCR in suspected COVID-19 patients.

Materials And Methods: Two hundred combined oro-nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from patients with suspected COVID-19 to evaluate the analytical performance of the mö-screen Corona Antigen Test compared to qualitative real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in symptomatic patients.

Results: The mö-screen Corona Antigen Test showed an overall agreement with a sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 100%, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 100%, and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 100%.

Enhancing physicochemical, bioactive, and nutritional properties of sweet potatoes: Ultrasonic contact drying with slot jet nozzles compared to hot-air drying and freeze drying.

Sweet potatoes are a rich source of nutrients and bioactive compounds, but their quality can be impacted by the drying process. This study investigates the impact of slot jet reattachment (SJR) nozzle and ultrasound (US) combined drying (SJR + US) on sweet potato quality, compared to freeze-drying (FD), SJR drying, and hot air drying (HAD). SJR + US drying at 50 °C closely resembled FD in enhancing quality attributes and outperformed HAD and SJR in key areas such as rehydration, shrinkage ratios, and nutritional composition.

Knowledge and attitudes of preclinical and clinical medical students toward epilepsy: A cross-sectional study from Turkey.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the epilepsy-related knowledge and attitudes toward epilepsy in medical students. In addition, these parameters were evaluated according to national geographic regions, preclinical and clinical characteristics.

Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, observational design and it was conducted among medical students in a centrally located city, Turkey.

Preconcentration of bismuth using nickel hydroxide nanoflower from water samples and determination by FAAS.

In this study, a preconcentration strategy based on Ni(OH) nanoflowers (NFs) was developed for the extraction/separation of bismuth ions from environmental water samples before the determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The homogeneous coprecipitation method was employed for the synthesis of the flower-shaped Ni(OH) and used as an adsorbent for the preconcentration of bismuth. The extraction variables were determined by a univariate optimization strategy to obtain maximum extraction performance.

Evaluation of Resilience and Stress Coping Styles of Primary Care Nurses During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study aimed to investigate the resilience, stress levels, coping styles, and the impact of related factors among nurses working in primary healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. Designed as a cross-sectional study, the research included 86 volunteer nurses employed in primary healthcare institutions in Bitlis provincial center and its districts in Turkey. Data were collected between March and June 2022 using a sociodemographic information form, the Resilience Scale for Adults, and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire.

Comparison of classical methods for bone age determination with Capitohamate planimetry on wrist X-rays.

Background/aim: This study aims to compare the Greulich-Pyle (GP) and Tanner-Whitehouse 2 (TW2) methods, both used in left wrist radiography for bone age determination in the pediatric age group, with the Capitohamatum method (CH) due to the importance of determining bone age in the pediatric period.

Materials And Methods: Direct radiographs of 210 female and 291 male individuals between the ages of 0-15 without any pathology in the left wrist bones were obtained; 501 os capitatum and os hamatum on anterior-to-posterior direct graphic images were measured using the GP, TW2, and CH planimetry methods. The estimated age of each measurement was calculated by evaluating the relationship between chronological age and sex.

Adaptation of virtual surgical planning to midface reconstruction with intraoperative navigation: "navigation mediated midface reconstruction".

Objective: The production of 3-dimensional models and materials according to preoperative virtual surgical planning is a time-consuming process and causes high costs. We aimed to demonstrate the navigation mediated reconstruction of the patients who underwent the removal of a tumoral mass in midfacial region according to their preoperatively prepared surgical plannings.

Renal ciliopathies are a genetically and phenotypically heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by cystic and dysplastic kidneys. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between genetic changes that cause renal ciliopathies and phenotypic outcomes. The study group consisted of 137 patients diagnosed with renal ciliopathy disease.

Do the provisional PRINTO Enthesitis/Spondylitis-Related JIA criteria capture youth with axial spondyloarthritis?

Background: The Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation (PRINTO) recently undertook an effort to better harmonize the pediatric and adult arthritis criteria. These provisional criteria are being refined for optimal performance. We aimed to investigate differences between patients who did and did not fulfill these PRINTO criteria amongst youth diagnosed with juvenile spondyloarthritis (SpA) that met axial juvenile SpA (axJSpA) classification criteria.

Thyrotoxic hypokalemic periodic paralysis induced by high-dose insulin in an adolescent male with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Introduction: Thyrotoxic hypokalemic periodic paralysis (THPP) is a rare but severe complication of hyperthyroidism characterized by acute muscle weakness. This study reports the first case of THPP in an adolescent with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and Graves' disease, triggered by high-dose insulin, high carbohydrate intake, and strenuous exercise. It highlights the clinical presentation, management, and implications of THPP in this context.

Central Adrenal Insufficiency: Etiology and Diagnostic Approach.

Central adrenal insufficiency (CAI) occurs due to a pituitary gland disorder (secondary AI) or hypothalamic dysfunction (tertiary AI). It is a potentially life-threatening condition that has many congenital and acquired causes. Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) deficiency may be isolated or more commonly it can be accompanied by other pituitary hormone deficiencies or midline defects.

Drug-refractory irritability and related factors in autistic children.

Objectives: Autistic children frequently exhibit irritability, which can manifest as aggression, self-injurious behaviour, and severe tantrums, leading to significant impairments. Two atypical antipsychotics have been licensed by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of irritability in autistic children, although a significant percentage of these children do not respond to this treatment. This study aimed to determine the frequency of drug refractory irritability (DRI) and identify the risk factors in a large clinical sample of autistic children.

Multicolor Tracking of Molecular Motors at Nanometer Resolution.

Molecular motors move processively along cytoskeletal filaments by stepping of their motor domains (MDs). Observation of how the MDs step relative to each other reveals the mechanism of motor processivity and various gating mechanisms used by motors to coordinate the catalytic cycles of their MDs. This chapter will discuss developments in simultaneous observation of the stepping motions of the two MDs of processive motors using two-color single-particle tracking microscopy.

Evaluation of the effect of BioFire FilmArray nested multiplex polymerase chain reaction method on rapid pathogen identification and antimicrobial stewardship in sepsis.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to assess the effect of the BioFire FilmArray Blood Culture Identification 2 panel on agent identification and antimicrobial stewardship in patients with a critical state of sepsis secondary to bloodstream infection.

Methods: This study was designed as a prospective observational study. Patients who developed sepsis and septic shock secondary to bloodstream infection in the intensive care unit were included in the study.

The effect of digital obesity and phubbing level on life satisfaction: latent profile analysis.

Background: In this study, the effects of individuals' digital obesity and phubbing behaviors on their life satisfaction were investigated by latent profile analysis (LPA) method. LPA is a statistical technique used to identify unobserved subgroups within a population based on individuals' responses to various observed variables.

Methods: The present study was conducted in a correlational cross-sectional descriptive design between November 2023- January 2024.

High prevalence of low bone mineral density in young adults with phenylketonuria.

Background: It has been reported that phenylalanine (Phe)-restricted diets may have negative effects on bone health in patients with classical phenylketonuria (cPKU). We aimed to evaluate bone mineral density (BMD) in adults with cPKU and determine the risk factors associated with low BMD.

Methods: Eighty adult patients with cPKU were examined, including 41 women and 39 men.

Suzuki-Miyaura coupling (SMC), a crucial C-C cross-coupling reaction, is still associated with challenges such as high synthetic costs, intricate work-ups, and contamination with homogeneous metal catalysts. Research intensely focuses on strategies to convert homogeneous soluble metal catalysts into insoluble powder solids, promoting heterogeneous catalysis for easy recovery and reuse as well as for exploring greener reaction protocols. Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), recognized for their high surface area, porosity, and presence of transition metals, are increasingly studied for developing heterogeneous SMC.

A single center retrospective study of vNOTES hysterectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy and vaginal hysterectomy operations.

In our study, we aimed to retrospectively compare vNOTES hysterectomy, a new method, with a vaginal hysterectomy (VH) and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH). Our study included 186 hysterectomy cases (62 vNOTES hysterectomy, 62 VH, and 62 TLH) with benign indications diagnosed between 2021 and 2022. Our study is a retrospective and single-center study.

Levels of Anxiety, Depression, Self-Esteem, and Guilt in Women with High-Risk Pregnancies.

Pregnancy is an inherently delicate process characterized by physiological and psychological changes, even in the absence of any health complications. This study compares the levels of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and guilt in women diagnosed with high-risk pregnancies to those in a control group consisting of women with healthy pregnancies. A total of 172 women participated in the study, 108 of whom had high-risk pregnancies, and 64 had healthy pregnancies.
