Poliovirus receptor (PVR, CD155) has recently been gaining scientific interest as a therapeutic target in the field of tumor immunology due to its prominent endogenous and immune functions. In contrast to healthy tissues, PVR is expressed at high levels in several human malignancies and seems to have protumorigenic and therapeutically attractive properties that are currently being investigated in the field of recombinant oncolytic virotherapy. More intriguingly, PVR participates in a considerable number of immunoregulatory functions through its interactions with activating and inhibitory immune cell receptors.

The Healthy Coping Program (HCP) was a multi-site community based intervention carried out in a diverse Canadian city. A randomized, waitlist-control design was used to evaluate the effectiveness of TF-CBT with trauma-exposed school-aged children (Muller & DiPaolo, 2008).

Although levels of work-family conflict were comparable, the Korean women had the lowest levels of work-family enrichment compared with the Israeli and American mothers. Moreover, Korean women reported the most depression and the least support from both spouses and employers.

Aims: To assess DT adaptability to the Israeli population as a multicultural society.
Methods: Participants were 496 cancer patients.
Talin1 is a key integrin coactivator. We investigated the roles of this cytoskeletal adaptor and its target integrins in B-cell lymphogenesis, differentiation, migration, and function. Using CD19 Cre-mediated depletion of talin1 selectively in B cells, we found that talin1 was not required for B-cell generation in the bone marrow or for the entry of immature B cells to the white pulp of the spleen.

Unlabelled: Measuring depression among persons with stroke faces many challenges; diagnostic tools are lengthy and do not measure the extent of depression; screening tools are not stroke-specific; and metrics from the available indices do not provide a value that is mathematically or clinically meaningful.
Purpose: To provide evidence for the development of a stroke specific Geriatric Depression Scale screening measure (SS-GDS) through Rasch methodology.
Methods: Secondary analyses of a randomized controlled trial post-stroke.
The splenic marginal zone is a site of blood flow, and the specialized B cell population that inhabits this compartment has been linked to the capture and follicular delivery of blood-borne antigens. However, the mechanism of this antigen transport has remained unknown. Here we show that marginal zone B cells were not confined to the marginal zone but continuously shuttled between the marginal zone and follicular areas, such that many of the cells visited a follicle every few hours.

The objective was to evaluate such a connection by collecting observational data from two groups of patients, designated as "studies by nature". Cohort 1: Medical records of all patients with primary hyperparathyroidism that were treated in a referral center during a 12-year period were retrospectively reviewed for malignancy before, at the time or after diagnosis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLymphocyte transendothelial migration (TEM) is promoted by fluid shear signals and apical endothelial chemokines. Studying the role of these signals in neutrophil migration across differently activated HUVEC in a flow chamber apparatus, we gained new insights into how neutrophils integrate multiple endothelial signals to promote TEM. Neutrophils crossed highly activated HUVEC in a beta(2) integrin-dependent manner but independently of shear.

Here we report that FTY720, a drug that targets sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptors, induced marginal zone B cell migration into follicles. Marginal zone B cells expressed S1P receptors 1 and 3 (S1P(1) and S1P(3), respectively).

After activation in lymphoid organs, T cells must again return to circulation to reach sites of infection; however, the mechanisms regulating lymphoid organ exit are unknown. An immunosuppressant drug, FTY720, inhibits lymphocyte emigration from lymphoid organs, and phosphorylated FTY720 binds and activates four of the five known sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptors.

The mechanisms by which apical and subendothelial chemokines regulate leukocyte adhesion to and migration across endothelial barriers have been elusive. We recently found that endothelial chemokines not only stimulate integrin-mediated arrest on vascular endothelial ligands but also trigger earlier very late antigen (VLA)-4 integrin-mediated capture (tethering) of lymphocytes to vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1)-bearing surfaces by extremely rapid modulation of integrin clustering at adhesive contact zones.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLeukocyte transendothelial migration (TEM) is thought to be a chemotactic process controlled by chemokine gradients across the endothelium. Using cytokine-activated human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) as a model of inflamed endothelium, we have shown that apical endothelial chemokines can trigger robust peripheral blood lymphocyte (PBL) migration across endothelial cells. Lymphocyte TEM was promoted by physiological shear stress applied continuously to migrating lymphocytes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLeukocyte recruitment to target tissue is initiated by weak rolling attachments to vessel wall ligands followed by firm integrin-dependent arrest triggered by endothelial chemokines. We show here that immobilized chemokines can augment not only arrest but also earlier integrin-mediated capture (tethering) of lymphocytes on inflamed endothelium. Furthermore, when presented in juxtaposition to vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), the endothelial ligand for the integrin very late antigen 4 (VLA-4, alpha4beta1), chemokines rapidly augment reversible lymphocyte tethering and rolling adhesions on VCAM-1.
