Evolving Autoimmune Gastritis Initially Hidden by Active Gastritis.

Autoimmune gastritis (AIG) and () gastritis are considered different diseases but exhibit overlapping features. We herein report a case of evolving AIG that had been initially hidden by active gastritis. The patient was diagnosed with active gastritis and received first-line eradication therapy in 2014 and successful second-line therapy in 2017.

Hepatocellular carcinoma treated by percutaneous hot saline injection.

Percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEI) is one of the local methods widely used for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ablation. However, this method is limited by the toxicity of ethanol and severe pain derived from irritation of the peritoneum of the liver capsule. Therefore, we have focused on the heat coagulation necrosis effect of boiled hot saline and devised percutaneous hot water injection therapy (PHoT) as a new local treatment method.

Elevated serum anti-carbonic anhydrase II antibodies in patients with ulcerative colitis.

An autoimmune mechanism has been postulated for the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of anti-carbonic anhydrase (CA) I and anti-CA II antibodies in a series of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. We studied 58 IBD patients [36 UC patients and 21 patients with Crohn's disease (CD)].

[A case of hepatocellular carcinoma with reduction of primary tumor and disappearance of multiple lung metastasis].

A 56-year-old male had suffered from hepatocellular carcinoma treated by operation, PHoT and TAE since 1994. In December 1995, he had multiple metastases of lung in addition to recurrence of primary hepatic lesions. We discontinued treatment of TAE and decided to administer UFT (400 mg/day) orally as an outpatient.

Macrolipasemia in Crohn's disease.

A 38-year-old male patient who had been treated for Crohn's disease was found to have serum lipase activity that was persistently increased approximately 10-fold above the normal upper limit. He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis based on slightly elevated elastase-1 level and retrograde pancreatography showing slight dilatation of the main pancreatic duct. Therefore, the hyperlipasemia was thought to be due to pancreatitis.
