Microscopic evidence demonstrated a strictly biotrophic lifestyle of the scab fungus on growing apple leaves and characterised its hemibiotrophy as the combination of biotrophy and saprotrophy not described before. The pathogen-host interface was characterised by the formation of knob-like structures of the fungal stroma appressed to epidermal cells as early as 1 day after host penetration, very thin fan-shaped cells covering large parts of the host cell lumen, and enzymatic cuticle penetration from the subcuticular space limited to the protruding conidiophores. The cell wall had numerous orifices, facilitating intimate contact with the host tissue.

Cell growth and gene expression are heterogeneous processes at the single-cell level, leading to the emergence of multiple physiological states within bacterial populations. Aging is a known deterministic driver of growth asymmetry; however, its role in gene expression heterogeneity remains elusive. Here, we show that aging mother cells undergo a progressive decline in old pole activity, generating asymmetry in protein partitioning, gene expression, and cell morphology.

Immunoglobulins for intravenous use (IVIgs) and subcutaneous use (SCIgs) can prevent recurrent and severe infections in patients with secondary antibody deficiencies that are frequently linked to haematological/oncological malignancies as well as other clinical conditions and their respective treatments. Even so, as IVIgs and SCIgs are costly and their supply is limited, their clinical use must be optimised. The aim of this position paper is to provide structured practical guidance on the optimal use of IVIgs and SCIgs in secondary antibody deficiencies, particularly in haematological and oncological practice.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study introduces a simple method for creating hybrid organic-inorganic nanostructures using block copolymer-based photonic microspheres that integrate gold nanoparticles.
  • - The process utilizes confined self-assembly within emulsion droplets to form "onion-like" spherical structures that can effectively incorporate metal ions via a preferential solvent (ethanol).
  • - The final product showcases well-defined optical properties, including a photonic bandgap and plasmonic resonance, proving the effectiveness of this easy two-step fabrication technique for advanced materials.

Background: The alignment between objective scores and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) is underexplored. This study aimed to assess changes in Nasal Polyp Score (NPS) and Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT) scores in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) patients undergoing dupilumab treatment and explore correlations between these scores.

Methods: CRSwNP patients received dupilumab therapy for six months.
