Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are mainstay treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, highly lipophilic ICS accumulate in systemic tissues, which may lead to adverse systemic effects. The accumulation of a new, highly lipophilic ICS, ciclesonide and its active metabolite (des-CIC) has not yet been reported.

Thioureylenes, such as thiouracil and methimazole, are known to be incorporated into growing melanin and selectively retained in melanotic melanoma. In the present study we used [(76)Br]5-bromo-2-thiouracil as tracer for PET imaging of human and murine melanotic melanoma transplanted subcutaneously into rats.

We are investigating the possibilities to use LDL as a drug carrier to increase the selectivity of antineoplastic drugs in cancer chemotherapy. We have developed a method to incorporate lipophilic cytotoxic agents without interfering with the in vitro and in vivo properties of LDL.
