Hypersensitivity to unfractionated and low-molecular-weight heparins and semisynthetic heparinoids is increasingly common. 7 female patients between 30 and 74 years with delayed-type allergy to heparins and semisynthetic heparinoids were investigated for (cross)-reactivity to fondaparinux, a new pentasaccharide with selective factor Xa inhibition. All patients showed delayed-type reactions to heparins and some additional cross-reaction to a heparinoid on intracutaneous testing.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infects and destroys crucial components of the immune system, leaving patients susceptible to a number of viral, bacterial and fungal diseases. Viral warts are caused by human papillomavirus infection and are a common skin disease that afflicts HIV-infected patients. Treatment modalities currently rely on destruction of the infected tissue or interruption of cell division; however, frequent recurrence is a particular challenge in HIV-infected patients.
