Article Synopsis
  • Climate change and human activities are leading to the rise of non-native aquatic species like jellyfish, which can disrupt ecosystems and pose health risks.
  • Researchers developed a two-step RPA-CRISPR-Cas12a eDNA assay for early detection of the jellyfish Chrysaora pacifica, showing high sensitivity in identifying low levels of its genetic material.
  • Field tests in Jinhae Bay supported the assay's effectiveness by correlating with data from existing monitoring programs, suggesting it could be a reliable alternative for early warning systems against invasive marine species.

An asymmetric addition/cyclization cascade of amidoesters and iminoquinones is developed using noncovalent N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis. The process enables access to various functionalized benzofuranones with an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter with high yields and ee values. The reaction displays a broad substrate scope.

The ingredients of tire-rubber products include a complex range of chemicals additives, most of which are leached into surrounding water as unmeasured toxicants with unexplored ecotoxicological impacts. The present study summarizes the reported species-specific acute toxicity of N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine-quinone (6PPD-Q), the ozonation product of anti-oxidant 6PPD used in tire rubber. Also, chronic toxicity and oxidative response of 6PPD-Q and another tire-rubber derivative, 2',2'''-dithiobisbenzanilide (DTBBA), in rotifer Brachionus koreanus were investigated.

Herein, successful utilization of non-covalent N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis toward asymmetric aminative dearomatization of naphthols is presented. The NHC-catalyzed process offers enantioselective synthesis of cyclic enones possessing a nitrogen-containing α-quaternary stereocenter. The reaction applies to various functionalized substrates including acid-labile groups and is shown to be scalable.

Objectives: Because the damage of kidney tissue is associated with hypertension and impaired nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, and as aspirin is reported to stimulate the synthesis of renal r-cortexin, an anti-hypertensive protein, we investigated the role of aspirin as bolus dose on elevated blood pressure induced by deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt in animal model.

Methods: The chronic antihypertensive effect of aspirin on DOCA treated with ASA group of rats ( = 6) was evaluated after ingestion of 0.35 μM aspirin as a bolus dose in every 24 h using tail cuff methods.
