When the anterior thoracic wall is within the hypostatic area, postmortem lividity in the region of the nipples and their immediate vicinity is less intense or absent. Where hypostatic skin haemorrhages (so-called vibices) are present, these are also found outside the areola of the nipple only. The case of a 43-year-old nurse is reported who was admitted for surgical treatment with two cuts in the abdomen extending into the subcutis; she pretended to have been attacked by 2 masked men who stabbed her for xenophobic motives.

On the other hand fatal hemorrhages from the respiratory tract can be caused by injuries as well as by diseases. In the age of successfully treated tuberculosis the majority of pulmonary hemorrhages is based on bronchogenic carcinomas.

Nephroblastoma (Wilms' tumour) is very rarely found in adult patients. We report on 10 cases to demonstrate the diagnostic and therapeutic problems. In case of flank pain, large tumour mass, fast tumour growth and young age, the possibility of Wilms' tumour should be taken into consideration even in adult patients.
