Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) results in a loss of humoral immunity and subsequent risk for severe infections. Thus, re-vaccination is required but may fail due to incomplete immune reconstitution. We retrospectively analyzed predictors of immune response to primary vaccination applied according to the EBMT (European Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group) recommendations.

Samples of 49 patients (pts) (no cGVHD (n = 14), subsequent quiescent onset (n = 16), de novo onset of cGVHD (n = 19)) were analyzed in the absence of active GVHD by flow cytometry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. All mean absolute cell counts are presented as cells per microliter; relative cell counts are presented as percentage of lymphocytes.

Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 13 patients with treatment-refractory cGVHD receiving TNI with 1×1Gy from 2001 to 2014. In 10 of 13 patients immunomodulatory effects of TNI were measured.
Iodine is an important trace element in geological and biological processes. We summarize here recent results and new data of experiments and observations carried out to improve the understanding of concentration levels and behavior of natural and anthropogenic iodine nuclides in the global environment. The distribution of stable iodine in the Earth's crust was estimated using concentration data in a suite of representative samples and the influence of subduction on the marine iodine cycle was investigated using (129)I systematics on iodine-rich brines from Japan.

Concentrations of the long-lived radioisotope 1291 were measured in dated tree rings in order to determine whether the distribution of this isotope reflects the history of nuclear deposition. 129I concentrations and 129I/127I ratios were analyzed in tree rings and bark samples from four trees at West Valley, NY, and from one tree at Rochester, NY. West Valley was the site of short-lived nuclear fuel reprocessing activities (1966-1972), while Rochester, located 115 km to the northeast, provided a regional control site for the study.
