Thumb Carpometacarpal (CMC) total joint arthroplasty is commonly performed with increasing numbers worldwide. We present a case of Prosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) leading to severe septic shock and disseminated septic emboli 8 months following uneventful thumb CMC arthroplasty. Such extensive and life-threatening infection following thumb CMC arthroplasty has not been reported.
