- A case from Western Nepal was initially misdiagnosed as pneumonia; the patient exhibited severe metabolic issues, including dehydration and respiratory distress, with consistently elevated lactate levels.
- The diagnosis was eventually confirmed through urine tests and whole exome sequencing, marking the first reported case of this condition in Nepal.
Higher cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) infection incidence has been observed with cardiac resynchronization therapy pacemaker/defibrillator (CRT-P/D) and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) devices compared to traditional pacemakers with a 1.2% rate reported at 1 year. CIED infection management has high morbidity/mortality.

Background: High sex ratios at birth (SRB) are seen in China, Taiwan, South Korea, parts of India and Vietnam. The imbalance is the result of son preference, accentuated by declining fertility. Prenatal sex determination and female feticides are common in many countries.
