Thyroid ablation techniques are becoming increasingly popular across various specialties, leading to significant advancements in the treatment of thyroid and head and neck diseases. Head and neck surgeons (HNS) play a pivotal role in advancing thyroid ablation practices due to several key advantages: their detailed understanding of the thyroid and head and neck anatomy, extensive experience with ultrasound and ultrasound-guided interventions, ability to manage post-ablation conditions, capability to perform surgeries if necessary, and expertise in voice assessment, rehabilitation, and management. In this narrative review, we combine a comprehensive literature review with our own decade-long experience in promoting thyroid ablation to demonstrate that HNS are essential in advancing these techniques, ensuring safety, and improving patient quality of life.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The aim of this study is to describe the management and associated follow-up strategies adopted by thyroid surgeons with different surgical volumes when loss of signal (LOS) occurred on the first side of planned bilateral thyroid surgery, and to further define the consensus on intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) applications.
Methods: The International Neural Monitoring Study Group (INMSG) web-based survey was sent to 950 thyroid surgeons worldwide. The survey included information on the participants, IONM team/equipment/procedure, intraoperative/postoperative management of LOS, and management of LOS on the first side of thyroidectomy for benign and malignant disease.

This research delves into the development and optimization of MXene nanosheet-based paper electrodes, emphasizing their adaptability in green electronics and diverse applications. Xuan paper, a cellulose-based material, was identified as an ideal substrate for its mechanical attributes and capacity to accommodate MXene, further yielding outstanding electrical conductivity. The MXene paper electrode demonstrated consistent performance under various conditions, showing its potential in the field of wearable electronics and medical devices.

Objectives: The feasibility and reliability of trans-thyroid cartilage EMG recording method (TCERM) during intraoperative monitoring (IONM) of the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) in thyroid surgery have been established. This study compared two different recording electrode placements on the ipsi-lateral and contra-lateral lamina of the thyroid cartilage (TC).
Methods: Fifty consecutive patients undergoing total thyroidectomy with 100 RLNs at risk were enrolled.
: Adequate postoperative pain control is an important component to enhance recovery. Multimodal analgesia with various pain control techniques has been widely used to alleviate postoperative pain. However, we found that a pseudoaneurysm provides a differential diagnosis of a tumor, and to that end, we present a case that mimics shoulder infection. Objectives: Quantum molecular resonance (QMR) devices have been applied as energy-based devices in many head and neck surgeries; however, research on their use in thyroid surgery is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the safety parameters of QMR devices during thyroidectomy when dissection was adjacent to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN).
Methods: This study included eight piglets with 16 RLNs, and real-time electromyography (EMG) signals were obtained from continuous intraoperative neuromonitoring (C-IONM).
The application of intraoperative neural monitoring (IONM) has been widely accepted to improve surgical outcomes after thyroid surgery. The malfunction of an IONM system might interfere with surgical procedures. Thus, the development of anesthesia modalities aimed at ensuring functional neuromonitoring is essential.

The results indicate that the Ni(OH)/CuO heterostructured composite exhibits a strong absorption in the UV and Vis regions. The construction of the heterojunction also improves the photogenerated carrier transport and inhibits the electron-hole separation due to the enhanced absorbance and the well alignment of the energy band at the Ni(OH)/CuO interface.
