Background/purpose: The association between sex and diagnostic behavior of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and the effects of comorbid mental retardation (MR) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), were explored.

Methods: Based on the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database (LHID)-2000 and data from 1996 through 2008, the cumulative incidence of ASD over time was compared between the sexes (both cohorts n = 38,117) using the log-rank test. The effects of comorbid MR and ADHD on the incidence of ASD were evaluated using Cox proportional hazard regression analysis.

  • Personal narratives, including comics, are effective tools for sharing cancer treatment experiences and aiding decision-making for patients and their families, but few web-based comics specifically target breast cancer patients.
  • The objective of the study was to create an animated web-based comic that portrays the emotional and physical journey of breast cancer patients, covering symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments.
  • The development involved a collaborative action research process, which included interviews to gather patient experiences, comic creation by a multidisciplinary team, revising based on expert feedback, and evaluating the final product with patient focus groups, resulting in an 8-chapter animated comic published online.

This paper introduces multiple theoretical perspectives and provides an overview of the tenets of each in order to identify the positions of breast cancer survivors and to highlight the factors and strategies that influence their transitional care.
