Background: Up to 23% of breast cancer patients recurred within a decade after trastuzumab treatment. Conversely, one trial found that patients with low HER2 expression and metastatic breast cancer had a positive response to trastuzumab-deruxtecan (T-Dxd). This indicates that relying solely on HER2 as a single diagnostic marker to predict the efficacy of anti-HER2 drugs is insufficient.

No previous research has examined the effects of Medicare annual wellness visits (AWVs) on early CI recognition among Medicare beneficiaries. Here, we assessed the association between incident diagnosis at MCI, moderate or severe ADRD stages in 2017-2020, and having a Medicare AWV in the three years prior to diagnosis.

Background: Offspring hypertension arising from adverse maternal conditions can be mitigated through dietary nutritional supplementation, including resveratrol. Previously, we identified derivatives of resveratrol butyrate ester (RBE), specifically 3,4'-di-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED2) and 3-O-butanoylresveratrol (ED4), demonstrating their superior antioxidant capabilities compared to RBE itself. This study sought to assess the protective impact of maternal supplementation with ED2 or ED4 on offspring hypertension in a rat model subjected to a high-fructose (HF) diet during pregnancy and lactation.

Multicolour and lineage-specific interphase chromosome Flow-FISH: method development and clinical validation.

Flow cytometry can be applied in the detection of fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) signals to efficiently analyse chromosomal aberrations. However, such interphase chromosome (IC) Flow-FISH protocols are currently limited to detecting a single colour. Furthermore, combining IC Flow-FISH with conventional multicolour flow cytometry is difficult because the DNA-denaturation step in FISH assay also disrupts cellular integrity and protein structures, precluding subsequent antigen-antibody binding and hindering concurrent labeling of surface antigens and FISH signals.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as the most prevalent pediatric liver disorder, primarily attributed to dietary shifts in recent years. NAFLD is characterized by the accumulation of lipid species in hepatocytes, leading to liver inflammation that can progress to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Risk factors contributing to NAFLD encompass genetic variations and metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance.

Carbohydrate-Mediated Pregnancy Gut Microbiota and Neonatal Low Birth Weight.

The effects of gut microbiota on the association between carbohydrate intake during pregnancy and neonatal low birth weight (LBW) were investigated. A prospective cohort study was conducted with 257 singleton-born mother-child pairs in Taiwan, and maternal dietary intake was estimated using a questionnaire, with each macronutrient being classified as low, medium, or high. Maternal fecal samples were collected between 24 and 28 weeks of gestation, and gut microbiota composition and diversity were profiled using 16S rRNA amplicon gene sequencing.

Facilitators and Barriers to Implementing the 4Ms Framework of Age-Friendly Health Systems: A Scoping Review.

Background: This scoping review explored the evidence in the peer-reviewed published journal literature to identify the facilitators and barriers to implementing the 4Ms Framework of Age-Friendly Health Systems in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.

Methods: Our search strategy focused on primary and secondary data sources that described the barriers and facilitators of incorporating the 4Ms Framework in clinical settings. We focused on older adults 65 years and older and followed the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-SCR).

The Contribution of Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinase-2 Genotypes to Breast Cancer Risk in Taiwan.

Central nervous system (CNS) involvement in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is relatively uncommon, occurring in approximately 5% of cases, with the majority of instances manifesting during relapse and often associated with poor prognoses. The aim of this case report is to present a unique occurrence of non-enhancing relapse of CNS lymphoma. Significantly, the patient had recently encountered a disease involvement in the axilla region, and subsequent to scheduled chemotherapy, she developed persistent neurological symptoms, leading to the discovery of a relapse of the CNS lymphoma.

Introduction: Aging is associated with significant alterations in physical, cognitive, and emotional functions, predisposing older adults to multimorbidity and functional dependence that necessitate assistance with the activity of daily living (ADL) and medical care from caregivers. With a substantial increase in the aging population comes a growing demand for caregivers, particularly informal caregivers who provide unpaid care to older adults with complex needs. However, they face substantial physical, emotional, and financial burdens as they balance caregiving with their family and job demands.

Attenuation of diabetes-mediated muscle atrophy in rats by fish oil enriched omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids supplementation.

Diabetes is associated with an increased risk of muscle wasting/atrophy, which adversely affects quality of life. We hypothesized that long term supplementation of fish oil may have protective effects against sarcopenia or muscle atrophy in streptozotocin (STZ) and high-fat (HF) diet-induced diabetic rat model. Wistar rats at age of 7 weeks were injected with saline or STZ to induce hyperglycemia.

Background: The use of smartphones and other digital devices (such as tablets and smartwatches) is important for the aging population to enhance and optimize communications with caregivers, families, friends, and providers. It also provides a platform for app-based activities to promote mental, physical, spiritual, and social well-being and virtual social connectedness. We, therefore, examined types of digital devices and categories of smartphone functions used by caregivers and care recipients in comparison to those without any caregiving roles.
