Redefining the Role of Public Health Professionals Serving Black Youths Seeking Mental Health Care: Implications for Training and Mentoring.

Attrition rates for Black youths in mental health treatment settings are high, and the extant literature suggests this may be because treatment is not meeting their unique needs. Public health professionals, defined here as all individuals who work to increase the well-being of youths, can play a major role in changing these outcomes. The purpose of this article is to suggest a broader scope of practice, or a redefined role, for public health professionals who work with Black youths seeking outpatient mental health care and to explicate ways in which training and mentoring can help accomplish this goal.

Information sharing across mental health service providers and criminal legal system stakeholders: Perspectives of people with serious mental illnesses and their family members.

Objective: The overrepresentation of people with serious mental illnesses in the criminal legal system has spurred information-sharing initiatives to transmit information between mental health service providers and criminal legal system stakeholders with the goal of improving resources and streamlining access to care. However, no research to date has examined the perspectives of people with mental illnesses who have their information shared across these systems or the perspectives of their family members. This study examined the perspectives on mental health-criminal legal system information sharing among people with serious mental illnesses and a history of arrest, as well as their family members.

A Neuro-Integrative Assessment of Perceptual-Motor Performance and Wellness in ROTC Cadets.

Resting heart rate variability (HRV) may be a useful index of both brain-based executive function and general health. Our purpose in this study was to quantify relationships among HRV, perceptual-motor performance metrics, and wellness survey responses. A cohort of 32 male Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) cadets completed a dual-task upper extremity reaction time (UERT) test, two tests of whole-body reactive agility, and a 10-item wellness survey that produced a 0-100 Overall Wellness Index (OWI).

Randomized controlled trial comparing an open surgical technique and a Seldinger technique for cricothyrotomy performed on a simulated airway.

Objectives: Emergency cricothyrotomy is a lifesaving procedure performed when intubation fails and oxygenation cannot occur. There are multiple techniques and kits to perform this procedure. However, current evidence does not provide a definitive answer as to which method is superior.

A Novel Approach to Assessment of Perceptual-Motor Efficiency and Training-Induced Improvement in the Performance Capabilities of Elite Athletes.

Standard clinical assessments of mild traumatic brain injury are inadequate to detect subtle abnormalities that can be revealed by sophisticated diagnostic technology. An association has been observed between sport-related concussion (SRC) and subsequent musculoskeletal injury, but the underlying neurophysiological mechanism is not currently understood. A cohort of 16 elite athletes (10 male, 6 female), which included nine individuals who reported a history of SRC (5 male, 4 female) that occurred between 4 months and 8 years earlier, volunteered to participate in a 12-session program for assessment and training of perceptual-motor efficiency.

Comparison of Narrow-Versus Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics in Elderly Patients With Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Background: Little evidence is available regarding the choice of empiric antibiotic therapy in elderly patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). The primary objective of this study is to compare the outcomes of elderly patients receiving broad- versus narrow-spectrum antibiotics during hospitalization for AECOPD.

We have used a plane wave expansion method to theoretically study the far-field head-media optical interaction in heat-assisted magnetic recording. For the Advanced Storage Technology Consortium media stack specifically, we notice the outstanding sensitivity related to the interlayer's optical thickness for media reflection and the magnetic layer's light absorption. With 10 nm interlayer thickness change, the recording layer absorption can be changed by more than 25%.
