Objective: Māori, the Indigenous population of Aotearoa New Zealand, face a substantial burden of nutrition-related diseases, especially obesity and type 2 diabetes. Weight loss, through dietary change, is a central component of obesity and diabetes prevention and management; however, most approaches have not been designed with or evaluated specifically for Māori. The aim of this study was to review literature on the enablers and barriers to dietary change, for Māori.

Methods: This qualitative study was conducted at two tertiary centres in Aotearoa New Zealand. Semi-structured conversations with people who had completed treatment for EC in the past 12 months were undertaken to explore how they were offered nutrition and well-being advice as part of standard follow-up care.
Background/aims: A self-reported online survey was performed to investigate the immediate effect of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in New Zealand on dietary intake, and lifestyle behaviours among pregnant women with diabetes.
Participants/methods: The survey was sent to 82 pregnant women who had Type 1, Type 2 Diabetes, or Gestational Diabetes and attended the Diabetes in Pregnancy Clinic in Wellington, New Zealand in May 2020, while the most restrictive COVID-19 lockdown measures were in place. All women received standard pregnancy nutrition advice provided by a dietitian, were monitoring blood glucose levels with nursing support, and seeing specialist endocrinologists and obstetricians for their pregnancy care.
