Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of spinal anesthesia performed in sitting versus right lateral positions on postspinal headache and intraocular pressure in pregnant women undergoing elective cesarean sections.
  • There was a significant occurrence of postdural puncture headaches in the sitting group compared to the lateral group, while intraocular pressure remained unchanged between the two positions.
  • The results also indicated that the right lateral position required more attempts for spinal anesthesia administration but showed better outcomes regarding headache incidence.

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of blood values at first admission to the hospital on predicting mortality in COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Patients And Methods: The blood parameters of 284 intensive care patients, who were diagnosed with COVID-19 via the Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) for SARS-CoV-2 RNA test, at first admission to the hospital, were evaluated. The contribution of these parameters to predicting mortality was analyzed.

Objective Anesthesia may be required to ensure the immobility of the patient during a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, particularly in pediatric patients. An MRI scanner generates radiofrequency radiation (RFR) to obtain images of parts of the body. During an MRI procedure, an amount of RFR is transformed into heat by the body, thereby leading to increased body temperature.

Introduction: Changes in thyroid hormone level can affect the cardiovascular system. The aim of this study was to show how the Tpeak -Tend (Tpe) interval, which is a new marker of ventricular arrythmia, is affected in patients who have become euthyroid following Levothyroxine treatment for hypothyroidism, as this has not been examined previously in literature.

Materials And Methods: This, cross-sectional study included a total of 119 females aged 18-45 years, separated into 3 groups as hypothyroid, euthyroid and control groups.

Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disease with characteristic symptoms and signs such as fatigue, weight gain, intolerance of cold, constipation, depression, mental slowdown and muscle cramps. Myopathic changes are observed in 30-80% of patients with hypothyroidism, but muscular hypertrophy with muscle stiffness has been reported in less than 10% of patients. Hoffmann's syndrome is a specific form of the hypothyroid-associated myopathy, rarely seen.

Introduction: Graves' disease ((GD)is an autoimmune disease believed to be caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. The gene encoding cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4)is one of the candidate genes for conferring susceptibility to thyroid autoimmunity. he aim of the study was to investigate the association between the exon 1 CTLA-4 gene polymorphism A(49)G and susceptibility to GD and Graves ' ophthalmopathy (GO)as well as its severity in a Polish population of the Lower Silesia region.

Objectives: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system which is widely believed to have a T-cell-mediated etiology. The cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) antigen molecule plays a key role in the downregulation of T-cell responses. To examine the genetic association of the CTLA-4 gene locus with MS, we analyzed an exon 1 (A49G) transition.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system is believed to have a T cell-mediated autoimmune etiology. The cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) gene is a strong candidate for the involvement in autoimmune diseases because CTLA-4 plays an important role in the downregulation of the early and late stages of T cell activation and the maintenance of peripheral T cell tolerance. To examine the genetic association of the CTLA-4 gene locus with MS, we analyzed an exon 1 CTLA-4 gene polymorphism A(49)G in 102 unrelated Polish MS patients in the Lower Silesia region and 101 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects.

Background: The objective of this prospective hospital-based study was to evaluate the rate and characteristics of acute human poisoning in our province (Gaziantep City, Turkey).

Methods: All cases of acute human poisonings admitted to the emergency department of the Gaziantep University Hospital, Gaziantep, Turkey, between January 2000 and December 2001, were included in the study. The rate and causes of mortality from poisoning as well as demographic data of the patients were investigated.

It is difficult to decide replantation or revascularization in partial or total amputations proximal to the wrist. Important point is the expected functional result and/ or protection of sensibility. Crush type partial or total amputations have poor prognosis.
