Objective: Malnutrition is a common condition, especially among hospitalized patients which are overlooked by many clinicians. Malnutrition was found to be associated with increased hospitalization duration, increased admission frequency, increase in infection frequency and severity, bad wound healing, gait disturbances, fallings, and fractures. In this study, we aimed to determine malnutrition frequency in patients who were admitted to the emergency department for non-trauma causes and hospitalized.

Objective: We aimed to compare immunological, histological and oxidative effects of antiepileptic agents; felbamate and levetiracetam on head trauma in rats.

Materials And Methods: In this study, 32 Sprague-Dawley genus male rats were used. A closed head trauma mechanism was constituted in order to perform head trauma in rats.

Background/aim: Infections are one of the most important causes of mortality and morbidity after liver transplantation as in all transplantations. Infectious complications are known to be among the preventable causes with appropriate diagnosis and treatment. So early prediction of the risk of infections will provide an effective approach to determine the local antimicrobial resistance and prevention of specific risk factors.

Introduction: In this study, we aimed to determine the protective effects of hesperidin, a citrus flavonoid, in a model of testicular ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.

Material And Methods: Forty-two pubertal male Wistar-Albino rats were divided into six groups: group 1 - control; group 2 - 50 mg/kg hesperidin (low dose hesperidin) used without torsion (LH group); group 3 - 100 mg/kg hesperidin without torsion (HH group); group 4 - torsion/detorsion group (T/D); group 5 - T/D + 50 mg/kg hesperidin treatment group (T/D + LH); and group 6 - T/D + 100 mg/kg hesperidin treatment group (T/D + HH). Hesperidin was given to the treatment groups 30 min before detorsion.

Background: Apelin has various effects on a lot of systems such as central nervous system and cardiovascular system. This study investigated the possible analgesic effects of apelin-13 using the hot-plate and the tail-flick thermal analgesia tests in rats. We also evaluated the mechanism underlying the analgesic effects of apelin-13 by pretreating with Nw-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) or ondansetron.

Background: Increased oxidative stress and histopathological damage have been implicated in the cardiotoxicity that limits the clinical therapy of cisplatin (CP) as an anti-cancer drug.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of hesperidin (HP) against CP-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.

Materials And Methods: Rats were divided into four groups (n = 7/group), and the first group served as the control group.

Objective: Stroke is a prominent life-threatening disease in the world. The current study was performed to predict the outcome of stroke using knowledge discovery process (KDP) methods, artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) models.

Materials And Methods: The records of 297 (130 sick and 167 healthy) individuals were acquired from the databases of the department of emergency medicine.

Objective: This case presents a rare cause of lumbar abscess.

Methods: A 51-year-old male patient was admitted to the emergency department with a complaint of lumbar pain. Spinal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a lumbar abscess.

Objectives: To examine the effects of early administration of analgesics in patients with acute abdominal pain on pain severity, abdominal findings and diagnostic accuracy.

Methods: 210 patients with non-traumatic acute abdominal pain lasting less than 72 hours were enrolled to this trial. Patients were administrated by placebo, tramadol (1 mg/kg), or paracetamol (15 mg/kg) randomly after the first evaluation of pain severity scores (standard 100 mm visual analog scale) and abdominal findings (rebound, rigidity, tenderness).

Background: The aim of the study is to seek the causes of application, the demographic and clinical characteristics of liver transplant patients and to share the experiences of our Emergency Department.

Materials And Methods: One hundred eighty-eight Emergency Department visits of ninety patients who underwent liver transplant operations between 2002 and 2009 were evaluated retrospectively.

Results: The patients applied to the Emergency Department with the complaints of fever 28.

Saving the zone of stasis is one of the major goals of burn specialists. Increasing the tissue tolerance to ischaemia and inhibiting inflammation have been proposed to enable salvage of this zone. After a burn, excessive inflammation, including increased vascular permeability, local tissue oedema and neutrophil activation, causes local tissue damage by triggering vascular thrombosis and blocking capillaries, resulting in tissue ischaemia and necrosis.

Purpose: To evaluate both histopathological effects and potential clinical application of fibrin glue on the penile cavernosal tissue.

Methods: Experimental penile fracture was formed by incising from the proximal dorsal side of the penis in 32 Wistar Albino rats. The rats were randomly assigned to four main groups of eight animals each.

Objective: The effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) produced by a third-generation (3G) mobile phone (MP) on rat brain tissues were investigated in terms of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), biochemistry, and histopathological evaluations.

Methods: The rats were randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 is composed of 3G-EMR-exposed rats (n = 9) and Group 2 is the control group (n = 9). The first group was subjected to EMR for 20 days.

Purpose: Montelukast, a selective cysteinyl leukotriene D4-receptor antagonist, is used in the treatment of asthma. In a rat model, our aim was to investigate the effects of montelukast, alone or in combination with topical antibiotics, on local burn wound healing.

Methods: Rats were randomly allocated to four groups after local burn development: Group 1; rats were left to secondary healing without treatment, Group 2; a dose of 10 mg/kg montelukast was given by gastric gavage once a day for 10 days, Group 3; rats were treated with topical pomade (bacitracin neomycin sulphate), and Group 4; rats were treat with a combination of topical antibiotic and montelukast (10 mg/kg were given by gastric gavage once a day for 10 days).

Background: This study aimed at analyzing the effect on coagulation of head trauma and other local traumas in patients exposed to multiple traumas in the early stage, and also the relations of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and Injury Severity Score (ISS) with coagulation parameters in these patients.

Methods: Fifty consecutive patients (9 women, 41 men) with multiple traumas were included in this study. The GCS, ISS and coagulation parameter levels were measured.
