Background: Immunotherapy has transformed cancer treatment; however, predicting treatment response remains challenging. Serum biomarkers can help identify patients who are most likely to benefit from immunotherapy.

Objective: This study evaluates the relationship between serum growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels and treatment outcomes in cancer patients undergoing second-line immunotherapy.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify key parameters of a scoring system to be developed to predict the homozygous M694V genotype in patients clinically diagnosed with familial Mediterranean fever.

Methods: This study was a cross-sectional analysis of 472 pediatric familial Mediterranean fever patients with a homozygous genotype on exon 10, followed at our tertiary pediatric rheumatology clinic between June 2016 and June 2023. The patients were categorized into 2 groups based on their genotypes: group 1 comprised 402 patients (85.

This article presents preliminary findings from a design ethnographic study examining pelvic floor care practices from the perspective of patients with pelvic floor injuries caused by birth treated at the continence clinic in Sundsvall's Hospital, Sweden. The aim is to enhance our understanding of women's experiences of pelvic floor injury, provide insights into living with pelvic floor injury, and discuss this from a universal design perspective. The study combines qualitative observations during clinic meetings and individual interviews with participants in a separate room.

  • - The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which began on February 24, 2022, has significantly disrupted the education and well-being of approximately 80,000 foreign students studying in Ukraine, compelling many to leave the country due to safety concerns and the instability caused by the war.
  • - A survey conducted with 99 non-Ukrainian medical students indicated alarmingly high levels of mental health issues, with 86.9% reporting depression and 82.8% experiencing anxiety, alongside considerable stress for a majority of participants.
  • - The unpredictability of the war's impact on international students' education contributes to their mental health challenges, reflected in the substantial percentages reporting extreme levels of depression, anxiety, and stress.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to create normative data on lower extremity tendon thickness in healthy children and explore correlations with age, gender, and body measurements using ultrasounds.
  • A total of 192 children aged 5-18 were examined for tendon thickness at five specific locations, and significant correlations were found between tendon thickness and factors like age and weight, particularly for the distal patellar ligament and Achilles tendon.
  • The results showed reliable data on tendon thickness, minimal vascular activity in younger children, and demonstrated strong agreement between observers in the measurements.

The growth hormone (GH)-insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) system regulates skeletal muscle growth and function. GH has a major function of targeting the liver to regulate IGF-1 production and release, and IGF-1 mediates the primary anabolic action of GH on growth. However, skeletal muscle is a target tissue of GH as evidenced by dynamic GH receptor expression, but it is unclear if GH elicits any direct actions on extrahepatic tissues as it is difficult to distinguish the effects of IGF-1 from GH.

Objective: The aim of this study was to characterize childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in two large cohorts from Turkey and the United States.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with childhood-onset SLE who fulfilled the 1997 American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for SLE from four reference centers in Turkey and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the United States were included in this study. A comparative analysis was conducted to evaluate the similarities and differences in clinical and laboratory features, damage accrual, and treatment experiences between the two populations.

Objective: The aim of this study is to ultrasonographically (US) evaluate the course of the knee joint in oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients who received intra-articular steroid (IAS) application to the knee joint.

Methods: 237 knee joints of 175 patients with oligoarticular JIA were evaluated retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups: those who received only IAS therapy and those who were methotrexate to IAS therapy.

Background: Although clinical assessment has historically been the primary method used for pediatric localized sclerosis (LS) diagnosis and staging, highfrequency ultrasonography (HFUS) is being investigated as a more accurate evaluation method for lesion.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess, compare dermal and subcutaneous tissue characteristics and enhance enhance lesion staging in pediatric LS patients using HFUS.

Methods: Twenty two LS patients were cross-sectionally evaluated with B-mode ultrasonography.

In efforts to achieve the goal of reducing ship emissions in the fight against climate change, reducing fuel consumption by making ships lighter is stated as one of the solutions. In this study, the possibilities of making composite equivalents of propellers, which are the most complex ship elements and traditionally produced from metal materials, are investigated with the advantages of additive manufacturing, which offers a rapid production opportunity for such forms. In this way, a lighter composite propeller and, therefore, a lighter ship will be achieved, and negative environmental impacts, especially harmful emissions, will be reduced.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how mad honey affects the ovaries of female rats, focusing on cell death and a molecule called nitric oxide.
  • The researchers had three groups of rats: one group got mad honey, another got normal honey, and the third group was a control with no honey.
  • Results showed that mad honey led to more cell death in the ovaries compared to normal honey, suggesting it might harm the ovarian follicles.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of anti-interleukin (IL)-1/-6 biologics on systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA)-associated macrophage activation syndrome (MAS).

Methods: Demographic, clinical and laboratory data of patients followed up with a diagnosis of sJIA-associated MAS assessed from sixteen paediatric rheumatology centres across the country. The clinical and laboratory features of MAS developing while on biological drugs were compared with those without this treatment.

Key Clinical Message: Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are extremely rare on the face and especially on the lip. Lip can be more easily exposed to traumas due to their anatomical location. Especially superficial AV malformations are very susceptible to trauma and can bleed very seriously after being exposed to such effects.

The prevalence of cognitive dysfunction, dementia, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) is increasing in parallel with an aging population. Distinct types of chronic stress are thought to be instrumental in the development of cognitive impairment in central nervous system (CNS) disorders where cognitive impairment is a major unmet medical need. Increased GABAergic tone is a mediator of stress effects but is also a result of other factors in CNS disorders.

Objectives: Colchicine forms the mainstay of treatment in FMF. Approximately 5-10% of FMF patients are colchicine resistant and require anti-IL-1 drugs. We aimed to compare the characteristics of colchicine-resistant and colchicine-responsive patients and to develop a score for predicting colchicine resistance at the time of FMF diagnosis.

Oligoanalgesia, the undertreatment of trauma-related pain using standard analgesics in prehospital and emergency departments, has been extensively documented as one of the major challenges affecting the effective treatment of trauma-related pain. When administered in low doses, methoxyflurane has been highlighted by numerous medical works of literature to provide an effective, nonopioid, nonnarcotic treatment alternative to standard analgesics for prehospital and emergency department use. Low-dose methoxyflurane has been associated with fast-pain relief in adult patients manifesting moderate-to-severe pain symptoms.

Introduction: The mechanism underlying endometriosis-related pain remains poorly understood. Previous studies have indicated that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type A (GABA ) receptors and GABAergic substances (eg endogenous neurosteroids) play important mechanistic roles in various pain conditions. Our primary objective was to compare GABA receptor function between women with endometriosis and healthy controls by performing a challenge test with diazepam, a GABA receptor agonist, using the saccadic eye velocity as the main outcome.
