Purpose: to assess efficacy and endotheliotropic properties of short-term addition of meldonium to basic therapy of patients with chronic ischemic heart failure and type 2 diabetes.

Results And Conclusion: The study demonstrated the ability of meldonium to significantly improve endothelial function and the state of microcirculatory vascular bed, as well as to influence beneficially heart rate variability.

Enhancing outcomes in patients with bipolar disorder: results from the Bipolar Disorder Center for Pennsylvanians Study.

Introduction: We developed models of Specialized Care for Bipolar Disorder (SCBD) and a psychosocial treatment [Enhanced Clinical Intervention (ECI)] that is delivered in combination with SCBD. We investigated whether SCBD and ECI + SCBD are able to improve outcomes and reduce health disparities for young and elderly individuals, African Americans, and rural residents with bipolar disorder.

Method: Subjects were 463 individuals with bipolar disorder, type I, II, or not otherwise specified, or schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type, randomly assigned to SCBD or ECI + SCBD and followed longitudinally for a period of one to three years at four clinical sites.

Objective: This study sought to evaluate the presence of the metabolic syndrome in a group of 171 patients with bipolar disorder who were consecutively recruited in the Bipolar Disorder Center for Pennsylvanians.

Methods: Data were collected from participants entering the Bipolar Disorder Center for Pennsylvanians protocol between 2003 and 2004. The study focused on the presence of the metabolic syndrome, as defined by the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation And Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (NCEP ATP III).

[Hybridization analysis of nucleic acids using stained latex].

Method of the latex hybridization analysis has been developed: after hybridization of NA-target with biotinylated probe visualization of hybrids was carried out using latex particles, containing fluorescent dye pyronin G and coated with streptavidin. Due to encapsulation of the fluorescent dye in polymer particles sensitivity of the analysis was increased by several orders of magnitude in comparison with methods, using fluorescently labelled probes. Possessing a number of advantages, the method yields to none of any other methods of NA hybridization analysis in sensitivity.
