Introduction: This prospective cohort study examines the relationship between post-sleeve gastrectomy (SG) weight loss and serum citrulline, I-FABP levels, and the I-FABP/citrulline ratio in obese patients, alongside the correlation with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remission.

Methods: 88 participants were enrolled, including 48 undergoing SG and 21 with T2DM. 40 healthy individuals served as controls.

Investigation of urinary disorders, functional independence, and quality of life in children with cerebral palsy.

Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between voiding disorders, functional independence, and quality of life, according to the gross motor function classification system, in children with cerebral palsy (CP) aged 8-17.

Methods: A total of 102 individuals (aged 8-17) with CP were included in the study. The Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), Dysfunctional Voiding and Incontinence Scoring System (DVISS), Wee Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM), and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) were used to evaluate the clinical parameters.

The genetic history of the Southern Arc: A bridge between West Asia and Europe.

By sequencing 727 ancient individuals from the Southern Arc (Anatolia and its neighbors in Southeastern Europe and West Asia) over 10,000 years, we contextualize its Chalcolithic period and Bronze Age (about 5000 to 1000 BCE), when extensive gene flow entangled it with the Eurasian steppe. Two streams of migration transmitted Caucasus and Anatolian/Levantine ancestry northward, and the Yamnaya pastoralists, formed on the steppe, then spread southward into the Balkans and across the Caucasus into Armenia, where they left numerous patrilineal descendants. Anatolia was transformed by intra-West Asian gene flow, with negligible impact of the later Yamnaya migrations.

Ancient DNA from Mesopotamia suggests distinct Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic migrations into Anatolia.

We present the first ancient DNA data from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic of Mesopotamia (Southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq), Cyprus, and the Northwestern Zagros, along with the first data from Neolithic Armenia. We show that these and neighboring populations were formed through admixture of pre-Neolithic sources related to Anatolian, Caucasus, and Levantine hunter-gatherers, forming a Neolithic continuum of ancestry mirroring the geography of West Asia. By analyzing Pre-Pottery and Pottery Neolithic populations of Anatolia, we show that the former were derived from admixture between Mesopotamian-related and local Epipaleolithic-related sources, but the latter experienced additional Levantine-related gene flow, thus documenting at least two pulses of migration from the Fertile Crescent heartland to the early farmers of Anatolia.

Evaluation of an Innovative and Sustainable Pre-Commercial Compound as Replacement of Fish Meal in Diets for Rainbow Trout during Pre-Fattening Phase: Effects on Growth Performances, Haematological Parameters and Fillet Quality Traits.

The aim of the study was to determine the potential and sustainable use of pre-commercial product ITTINSECT™ APS V1 as a major protein source in rainbow trout () diets. A 60-day feeding experiment was conducted to potentially use ITTINSECT as fish meal replacement in the diets of rainbow trout. Five isonitrogenous in dry matter (38% crude protein) and isolipidic (15% crude lipid) diets were produced: a control diet (fishmeal-based) (ITT) and four experimental diets replacing fishmeal by 25 (ITT), 50 (ITT), 75 (ITT) and 100 (ITT) %, with ITTINSECT™ APS V1.

Efficacy analyses of axitinib and nivolumab in metastatic renal cell carcinoma after failure of targeted therapy: which is better?

Purpose: The objective of the present study was to compare the efficacy of axitinib and nivolumab in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) previously treated with targeted therapy.

Methods: A total of 79 patients were enrolled (39 patients in axitinib group, 40 patients in nivolumab group). Survival outcomes of patients, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test.

Adsorption isotherms, kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions in water solutions by using Amberlyst 15 resin were performed and evaluated by utilizing solid phase extraction method with the batch system at 298, 308, and 318 K. Flame atomic absorption spectrometry was utilized for absorbance measurements of Cd and Pb in solutions. The Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models, respectively were implemented to equilibrium results obtained.

Sarcopenia and anthracycline cardiotoxicity in patients with cancer.

Background: Several studies have suggested that sarcopenia is associated with an increased treatment toxicity in patients with cancer. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between sarcopenia and anthracycline-related cardiotoxicity.

Methods: Patients who received anthracycline-based chemotherapy between 2014 and 2018 and had baseline abdominal CT and baseline and follow-up echocardiography after anthracycline treatment were included.

Evaluation of immunization status in patients with cerebral palsy: a multicenter CP-VACC study.

Children with chronic neurological diseases, including cerebral palsy (CP), are especially susceptible to vaccine-preventable infections and face an increased risk of severe respiratory infections and decompensation of their disease. This study aims to examine age-appropriate immunization status and related factors in the CP population of our country. This cross-sectional prospective multicentered survey study included 18 pediatric neurology clinics around Turkey, wherein outpatient children with CP were included in the study.

Cardiac Chamber Quantification by Echocardiography in Adults With Sickle Cell Disease: Need Attention to Eccentric Hypertrophy.

Introduction and aim Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is the most common hemoglobinopathy worldwide, and cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of death. In these patients, cardiac remodeling begins from childhood and leads to sickle cell cardiomyopathy in the following years. Concentric hypertrophy and eccentric hypertrophy are known to predict early cardiac events.

Evaluation of early unplanned readmissions and predisposing factors in an oncology clinic.

Background: Unplanned readmission in the first 30 days after discharge is an important medical problem, although the data on cancer patients is limited. So we planned to evaluate the rates and causes of early readmissions and the predisposing factors.

Methods: Patients hospitalized in Hacettepe University Oncology services between August 2018 and July 2019 were included.

Objective: To explore the relationship of lymph node ratio (LNR) and other lymph node parameters with disease-free (DFS) and overall (OS) survival among women with endometrial cancer.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of data of women diagnosed with endometrial cancer at Hacettepe University Hospitals, Ankara, Turkey, between 2003 and 2013. Women who had their surgical procedure, pathology review, and follow-up at Hacettepe University Hospitals were included in the study.

COVID-19 pandemic: changes in cancer admissions.

Background: COVID-19 pandemic could create a collateral damage to cancer care denoting disruptions in care due to a significant burden on healthcare and resource allocations. Herein, we evaluate the early changes in the inpatient and outpatient oncology clinics to take a snapshot of this collateral damage at Hacettepe University Cancer Institute.

Methods: Patients applying the outpatient clinic and outpatient palliative care (OPC) clinic for the first time and patients admitted to inpatient wards in the first 30 days after the first case of COVID-19 in Turkey were evaluated.

Nivolumab for relapsed or refractory Hodgkin lymphoma: real-life experience.

Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is considered a curable disease; however, in approximately one-third of the responding patients, the disease relapses following completion of therapy. One of the drugs that have been approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory cHL is nivolumab, an immune check point inhibitor that shows its effects by blocking the programmed death 1 (PD-1) receptor. In this study, we present a retrospective "real-life" analysis of the usage of nivolumab in patients with relapsed/refractory cHL that have joined the named patient program (NPP) for nivolumab, reflecting 4 years of experience in the treatment of relapsed/refractory cHL.

Comparison of clinical and PET-derived prognostic factors in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma: a special emphasis on bone marrow involvement.

Objective: In patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), we investigated F FDG PET/computed tomography (CT) parameters, clinical findings, laboratory parameters, and bone marrow involvement (BMI) status for predictive methods in progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), and whether F FDG PET/CT could take the place of bone marrow biopsy (BMB).

Methods: The performance of F FDG PET/CT (BMPET) was evaluated. The prognostic value of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), stage, international prognostic index (IPI) score, IPI risk, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), B2 microglobulin, Ki67 proliferation index, and the presence of BMI was evaluated for OS and PFS.
