Predicting Sexual Recidivism.

The current study focuses on adolescents with sex offense histories and examines sexual reoffending patterns within 2 years of a prior sex offense. We employed inductive statistical models using archival official records maintained by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ), which provides social, offense, placement, and risk assessment history data for all youth referred for delinquent behavior. The predictive accuracy of the random forest models is tested using receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves, the area under the curve (AUC), and precision/recall plots.

The Triality of Strain, Self-Control, and Eating Disorders.

This study examines the potential relationship between eating disorders and antisocial behaviors through the lenses of the general theory of crime and general strain theory. We utilized the data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, a longitudinal study of a nationally representative sample of juveniles in grades 7 to 12 in the United States between 1994 and 2008. We constructed three separate measures of eating disorders and examined their relationships with both petty theft and aggressive behaviors.

The acute effects of preoperative ozone theraphy on surgical wound healing.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of preoperative rectal ozone insufflation on surgical wound healing over the proinflammatory cytokines and histopathological changes.

Methods: Twenty one rabbits were divided into 3 groups. Sham, surgical wound, and ozone applied (6 sessions, every other day 70 µg/mL in 12 mL O2-O3 mixture rectally) surgical wound groups were created.

Application of radiofrequency ablation procedure on a morbidly obese patient with a venous ulcer and large saphenous vein.

Venous ulcers that occur due to chronic venous insufficiency are seen on the upper medial malleol of the ankle. Treatment of venous ulcers is protracted and generally the success rate is low. Co-morbid factors play an important role in the success of treatment of venous ulcers.

The effects of 21 and 23 milimeter aortic valve prosthesis on hemodynamic performance and functional capacity in young adults.

Objective: Early and medium-term improvement of functional capacity and regression of left ventricular hypertrophy was evaluated in the young adult patient group following application of 21 mm or 23 mm bileaflet aortic mechanical valve prosthesis due to aortic stenosis. Methods : Twenty two patients (10 male, 12 female; mean age 27+-8.2 (19-43)) who underwent isolated aortic valve replacement due to rheumatic aortic stenosis, were included in the study.

Atrial septal defect repair; our early and mid-phase results.

Objective: Atrial septal defect is one of the most commonly encountered congenital heart diseases in adults. The effect of age of the patient to the surgery is disputable. The purpose of this report was to evaluate surgical repair in patients with ASD who are operated in our clinic.

Effects of tenoxicam in experimental corrosive esophagitis model.

Esophageal stricture, one of the important complications of corrosive esophagus, develops following edema and granulation tissue that forms during and after the inflammatory reactions. Tenoxicam, a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug with a long half-life, prevents various leukocyte functions including phagocyte and histamine secretion by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis and removes various oxygen radicals in the region of inflammation. We designed this as a histopathological study using tenoxicam in rats for which we created a corrosive esophagus model.

Protective role of heparin in the injury of the liver and kidney on the experimental model of ischemia/reperfusion.

Background: Surgery of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAA) is associated with high incidence of serious complications. Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury may be responsible for these complications. We investigated the effect of degree of anticoagulation on remote organ I/R injuries and whether heparin is protective against I/R injury in addition to its anticoagulant properties.

Radiofrequency ablation of the great saphenous vein in an elderly patient with co-morbid disease.

An 86-year-old male patient with hypertension, Parkinsonism, benign prostatic hyperplasia, cataract and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease had a history of coronary bypass surgery in two veins due to anterior myocardial infarction one year earlier. He presented with pain and feelings of paresthesia below the knee of his left leg, and had fallen twice. He had used compressions and venoprotective medication for two years and had also received physiotherapy but it had not alleviated the symptoms.

Does vitamin C or its combination with vitamin E improve radial artery endothelium-dependent vasodilatation in patients awaiting coronary artery bypass surgery?

Background: We evaluated the vasodilatory effects of two antioxidants, vitamins C (ascorbic acid) and E (α-tocopherol), on radial artery and endothelium-dependent responses in patients awaiting coronary artery bypass surgery.

Methods: The study was performed in three groups. The first group took 2 g of vitamin C orally (n = 31, vitamin C group), the second group took 2 g of vitamin C with 600 mg of vitamin E orally (n = 31, vitamins C + E group), and the third group took no medication (n = 31, control group).
