Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) can be diagnosed using various diagnostic modalities. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a cost-effective and widely available diagnostic aid that provides functional information of the heart. However, its ability to classify and spatially localise CVD is limited.

Evaluation of the Regeneration Effects of Systemically Applied Methylprednisolone and Vitamin B12 on Mental Nerve Crush Injury.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of methylprednisolone and vitamin B12 injection on the regeneration of the nerves after a mental nerve crush injury.

Material And Methods: A total of 40 albino Wistar rats have been randomly divided into four groups: group 1 (n=10): crushlike nerve damage was created by pinching the left mental nerve for 60 s with an aneurysm clip and intraperitoneally administered 1 ml of saline for 14 days; group 2 (n=10): the left mental nerve was pinched for 60 s with an aneurysm clip and intraperitoneally administered 2 mg/kg of methylprednisolone for 14 days; group 3, experimental group (n=10): the left mental nerve was pinched for 60 s with an aneurysm clip and intraperitoneally administered 2 mg/kg of vitamin B12 for 14 days; and group 4, experimental group (n=10): the left mental nerve was pinched for 60 s and intraperitoneally administered 2 mg/kg of methylprednisolone and 2 mg/kg of vitamin B12 for 14 days. All rats were sacrificed on the 28th postoperative day, and histopathological evaluation was performed.

Correlation of Postoperative Outcomes According to the Amount of Prostatic Tissue Removed in Patients Undergoing Transurethral Resection of the Prostate.

Objective: The present study assesses the effect of the proportion of tissue resected during transurethral resections of the prostate (TUR-P) on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and other parameters in patients with a benign prostatic obstruction (BPO).

Materials And Methods: Forty-three patients who underwent TUR-P between 2018 and 2021 were assessed prospectively. The patients were divided into two groups according to the percentage of tissue removed (group 1 <30%, group 2 >30% resection).

Introduction: Idiopathic pulmonary hypertension(IPAH) is a rare disease that causes severe morbidity and mortality despite advances in treatment management. Evaluating the prognosis of the disease is critical in determining therapeutic approaches. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of C-reactive protein/albumin ratio (CAR) and uric acid, which is an easily applicable and inexpensive parameter in patients with IPAH.

A series of new Pt(II) saccharinate complexes containing PR ligands (PPh, PPhCy, PPhCy and PCy) with progressive phenyl (Ph) replacement by cyclohexyl (Cy) were synthesized and structurally characterized by IR, NMR, ESI-MS and X-ray diffraction. The anticancer activity of the complexes was tested against human breast (MCF-7), lung (A549), colon (HCT116), and prostate (DU145) cancer cell lines as well as against normal bronchial epithelial (BEAS-2B) cells. Trans-configured complexes 1, 3 and 5 emerged as potential anticancer drug candidates.

Background: The perioperative use of antithrombotic therapy is associated with increased bleeding risk after cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation. Topical application of tranexamic acid (TXA) is effective in reducing bleeding complications after various surgical operations. However, there is no information regarding local TXA application during CIED procedures.

Maternal serum concentrations of s-Endoglin and IL-6 in pregnancy complicated by preterm premature membrane rupture.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate maternal serum concentrations of s-Endoglin and compare s-Endoglin with other inflammatory markers in prediction of time to delivery, in pregnancies complicated by preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).

Materials And Methods: Fifty five patients complicated by PPROM whose gestational age were between 2433 weeks and 44 matched healthy pregnant women were included in present study. Maternal concentrations of s-Endoglin concentrations were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and compared with maternal inflammatory markers including interleukin-6 (IL-6), white blood cell (WBC) count and serum C-reactive protein (CRP).

Cancer antigen 125 levels and increased risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation.

Objective: Elevated cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) levels are associated with cardiopulmonary disorders such as acute and chronic heart failure (HF), coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and atrial fibrillation (AF). The development of atrial fibrillation (AF) is related to morbidity and mortality in patients with HF: therefore, it is important to identify patients with increased risk for development of AF. We investigated whether plasma CA-125 levels in patients with hospitalized systolic HF could predict the development of AF.

Genetic polymorphisms of estrogen receptor alpha and catechol-O-methyltransferase genes in Turkish patients with familial prostate carcinoma.

Objectives: Estrogen is one of the most crucial hormones participating in the proliferation and carcinogenesis of the prostate glands. Genetic polymorphisms in the estrogen metabolism pathway might be involved in the risk of prostate carcinoma development. We evaluated the association between genetic polymorphisms in estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1) and catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) genes and the risk of developing familial prostate carcinoma.

Elevated mean pulmonary artery pressure in patients with mild-to-moderate mitral stenosis: a useful predictor of worsening renal functions?

Objective: Renal dysfunction commonly accompanies the course of cardiac disorders and strongly associates with increased morbidity and mortality. Elevated central venous pressure is related to worsening renal function in patients with heart failure. However, predictors of worsening renal function in mitral stenosis-whose pathophysiologic process is similar to heart failure with regard to right heart dysfunction-are unknown.

Effects of melatonin and dexpanthenol on antioxidant parameters when combined with estrogen treatment in ovariectomized rats.

The purpose of the study was to assess whether it is possible to reduce the oxidative damage using antioxidant agents combined with hormone replacement therapy after menopause. In this prospective experimental study, 50 mature female Wistar albino rats weighing 270-310 g were used. Rats were divided into the following six groups: (1) Ovx group (n = 7): the animals underwent bilateral ovariectomy.

Objective: To investigate, in an experimental animal study, the effects of letrozole and tamoxifen in the reduction of adhesion formation following abdominopelvic surgery.

Background: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is characterized by vascular dysfunction, indicating the involvement of endothelial cells. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) plays a critical role in the coordination of vascular tone and is associated with the prognosis in critically ill patients such as those with sepsis and septic shock. We investigated whether CNP is related to the severity of CCHF.

Gamma-glutamyltransferase to determine cardiovascular risk: shifting the paradigm forward.

Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), regarded as a marker of excessive alcohol consumption or liver disturbances, is an enzyme catalyzing the first step in the extracellular degradation of the antioxidant glutathione (GSH) and may take part in atherogenesis. The marked relationship between GGT and the atherosclerotic process has shifted attention to the issue of whether its serum levels can aid in the detection of individuals at high risk for incident cardiovascular events. It is likely that the process entails the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein through GSH/GGT-dependent iron reduction within the plaque.

Acute effects of passive smoking on endothelial function.

Impairment of endothelial functions has been shown to occur after acute and chronic exposure to passive smoking (PS), as assessed by flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) of the brachial artery. A total of 61 participants, 30 male and 31 female, mean ages 26 (18-36) were enrolled in the study. All were clinically well and nonsmokers.
