Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a complex hypersensitivity reaction observed in asthma as well as cystic fibrosis (CF) patients due to the colonization of the airways by Aspergillus fumigatus. While ABPA is most commonly observed in CF patients (2-9%), it is seen at a rate of 1-2% in patients diagnosed with asthma. ABPA is mostly seen in steroid dependent adult asthma patients and has rarely been reported in pediatric asthma patients.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the importance of the Dorr index in the preoperative evaluation of implant failure in patients who underwent proximal femoral nail (PFN).

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study examined 312 patients who underwent PFN for intertrochanteric fractures between January 2016 and January 2020. Patients with unstable fractures according to the AO/OTA (AO Foundation/Orthopaedic Trauma Association) classification, those over 65 years of age, with at least one year of regular follow-up, a tip-apex distance <25 mm, and a caput-collum-diaphyseal angle between 125° and 135°, were included.

The spatiotemporal pattern of surface displacements from large earthquakes provides crucial insights about the deformation of Earth's crust at various scales and the interactions among tectonic plates. However, the lack of extensive and large-scale geodetic networks near such seismic events hinders our thorough understanding of the large-scale crustal deformation resulting from earthquakes. Using Türkiye's extensive and continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) network during the moment magnitude 7.

Article Synopsis
  • Coeliac disease (CD) is an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten consumption, and this study explored the link between blood groups and adherence to a gluten-free diet among children with CD.
  • The research involved 177 children diagnosed with CD and a control group of 211 healthy children, analyzing their blood groups and dietary compliance over at least a year.
  • The findings showed no significant connection between ABO blood groups or the Rh factor and either the diagnosis of CD or the willingness to follow a gluten-free diet, indicating that all blood types are equally susceptible to CD.

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to show whether infection, which causes various cardiovascular complications in children, can lead to an increase in aortic stiffness with a noninvasive method, echocardiography.

Methods: Children who were diagnosed with infection and who had tachycardia, chest pain and murmur that were not related to body temperature increase during the treatment were evaluated cardiologically and had echocardiographic examination, were included in the study. Aortic strain, aortic distensibility measurement results and aortic stiffness index of the patients in the patient and control groups were calculated.

Objective: Children with cleft lip and palate (CLP) have a greater risk of dental caries. The parents' knowledge and attitudes may have an impact on their children's oral health and dietary habits. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the socio-demographic characteristics, oral health knowledge, oral health behaviours, and habits of the parents in addition to the relationship with the oral health and dietary practices of their children with CLP.

  • Chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) is increasingly common in aging populations, and while surgery is standard, treatments like dexamethasone (Dex) and atorvastatin (Ato) are being researched for high-risk patients despite a higher mortality risk.
  • A study was conducted with 95 rats to analyze the effects of dexamethasone-atorvastatin versus bevacizumab (Bev), using autologous blood injections to simulate cSDH, and monitoring health through weight changes.
  • Results showed both treatment groups were effective, with maximum immune response on day 14, but Dex-Ato caused weight loss, while Bev was better tolerated and emerged as a potential alternative treatment for c

We evaluated the short- and long-term effects of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) on their cardiovascular system. The study population consisted of 38 MIS-C patients and 55 control patients. Standard echocardiographic measurements and aortic stiffness parameters were compared between the two groups at different time points.

This study aimed to determine the level of interleukin (IL)-8 in diagnosing of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA). We conducted this study with 50 controls and 25 IPA patients with haematological malignancies. Demographic data, haematological diagnoses, chemotherapy regimen, galactomannan level, fungal culture, and computed tomography findings of the patients were evaluated prospectively.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether exogenous melatonin (MEL) mitigates the deleterious effects of high-dose caffeine (CAF) administration in pregnant rats upon the fetal hippocampus.

Materials And Methods: A total of 32 adult Wistar albino female rats were divided into four groups after conception (n = 8). At 9-20 days of pregnancy, intraperitoneal (i.

Background: Most patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia progress after treatment or retreatment with targeted therapy or chemoimmunotherapy and have limited subsequent treatment options. Response levels to the single-agent venetoclax in the relapsed setting is unknown. We aimed to assess venetoclax activity in patients with or without previous B-cell receptor-associated kinase inhibitor (BCRi) treatment.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the utility of C-peptide levels in the differentiation of monogenic forms of diabetes from type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinical practice.

Subjects And Methods: A total of 104 patients aged >16 who visited the Dicle University's Faculty of Medicine between April 2011 and December 2020 and were diagnosed with monogenic diabetes by genetic analysis or with T1DM and T2DM were randomly selected for retrospective evaluation. The C-peptide levels of these patients at the time of diagnosis of diabetes were compared.

Venetoclax-azacitidine is approved for treatment of patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) ineligible for intensive chemotherapy based on the interim overall survival (OS) analysis of the VIALE-A study (NCT02993523). Here, long-term follow-up is presented to address survival benefit and long-term outcomes with venetoclax-azacitidine. Patients with newly diagnosed AML who were ineligible for intensive chemotherapy were randomized 2:1 to receive venetoclax-azacitidine or placebo-azacitidine.

Background: Antithymocyte globulin (ATG)-based immunosuppression is standard in front-line treatment for people with severe aplastic anaemia without a histocompatible donor or who are 40 years or older. However, ATG requires in-hospital administration, is associated with infusion-related toxicities and has limited availability worldwide. In this study, we investigated the activity and safety of an ATG-free regimen of eltrombopag with cyclosporin A as a potential treatment for patients with severe aplastic anaemia who might not have access to or cannot tolerate horse-ATG.

Objectives: Septic arthritis (SA) is a serious bacterial infection that must be treated efficiently and timely. The large number of culture-negative cases makes local epidemiological data important. Accordingly, this study aimed to evaluate the etiology, clinical characteristics, and therapeutic approach of SA in children in Turkiye, emphasizing the role of real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques in the diagnosis.
