Settings: In Kyrgyzstan, drug-resistant tuberculosis poses a significant challenge. Recognizing the potential of the BPaL regimen, the World Health Organization recommended its use for selected drug-resistant TB cases under operational research conditions in 2020.

Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia has a population of 6 million people who have high mortality rates for chronic lung diseases. The mountainous geography, widespread use of biomass fuels for cooking and indoor heating, and high rates of smoking are the major contributing factors. We have estimated the number of serious fungal infections in order to define the burden of these diseases in Kyrgyzstan.

Amiodarone, one of the most effective anti-arrhythmic drugs, is also known for its ability to accumulate lipid-pharmakon complexes in the lysosomes of different tissues. In the eye the lysosomal storage leads to typical side-effects. Whorl-like epithelial, reversible corneal inclusions occur in about 70 to 100 % of the patients on amiodarone therapy.
