Background: Due to its increasing prevalence and suboptimal treatment, non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection is an emerging problem in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Detailed description of regional NTM prevalence and distribution, and identification of predictors of NTM acquisition in CF are essential to optimise treatment and surveillance guidelines.
Methods: A retrospective, multi-center analysis was conducted between the years 2020 and 2022 on data from 232 adult patients registered in the Hungarian CF Registry in 2022.
Drug resistance is a significant challenge in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), where stromal elements such as adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) contribute to a chemoresistant tumor microenvironment (TME). This study explored the effects of oxaliplatin (OXP) and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) on PDAC cells (Capan-1) and ASCs to investigate the mechanisms of chemoresistance. While OXP and 5-FU reduced Capan-1 viability in a dose- and time-dependent manner, ASCs demonstrated high resistance, maintaining > 90% viability even at cytotoxic doses.

In preclinical studies and early-phase clinical studies enrichment of donor regulatory T cells (Tregs) appears to prevent GVHD and promote healthy immunity. We enrolled 44 patients on an open-label, single-center, phase 2 efficacy study investigating if a precision selected and highly purified Treg cell therapy manufactured from donor mobilized peripheral blood improves one-year GVHD-free relapse free survival (GRFS) after myeloablative conditioning (trial NCT01660607).

Subsequent CAR T-cell therapy shows promise, but the impact of residual CAR19 and early relapse remains unclear. We evaluated 37 CAR19-refractory LBCL patients who received anti-CD22 CAR T-cell (CAR22) in a phase 1b trial (NCT04088890).

In particular, the environment serves as a dynamic reservoir of microbes that provides potential colonizers for animal microbiomes. In this study, we analyzed the microbiome of Hydra oligactis and corresponding water samples from 15 Hungarian lakes to reveal the contribution of environmental microbiota on host microbiome.

Our aim was to compare the arrhythmia detection efficacy of VDD ICDs with conventional single- (VVI) and dual-chamber (DDD) defibrillators.
Methods: Data from consecutive patients undergoing ICD implantation were retrospectively analyzed.
Introduction: Surgical resection of sacral plexus endometriosis (SPE) is contemplated in severely symptomatic patients not responding to medical or hormonal therapy. However, there is only limited data on the effects of surgery on pain and neurological symptoms. This study aims to report on the surgical outcomes in terms of pain and neurological symptom reduction in women undergoing surgical resection of SPE.

Mediating one's behavior through covert or overt verbal behavior is a phenomenon familiar to anyone who has had to remember a phone number with no way to write it down, follow a recipe without consulting the cookbook for each step, or solve a math equation without a calculator or pencil and paper. Jointly controlled responding is a type of multiply controlled responding that may provide a behavioral analysis of such mediating responses. Joint control, as we will discuss in detail, involves one or more verbal responses bringing other verbal or nonverbal responses to strength under appropriate controlling conditions.

Methods: We included 41 MS patients, 35 PN patients, and 36 controls across 5 sites. MS patient data included lesion counts, disease activity, albumin quotient, and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores.
This comparative study investigates the modification of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes with different nanoparticles (TiO or TiO-based composites containing BiVO and/or CNT), using three distinct methods (blending, coating, and grafting) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). The objective was to enhance the photocatalytic and filtration performance for the separation of oil-in-water emulsions. Regarding the UV activity, the PVDF-TiO/CNT/PVP-coated membrane presented the best performance.

Though hormonal therapy is a mainstay of treatment in GSM, some patients may pursue nonhormonal therapies.
Aim: To determine the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation of the vaginal canal with the MorpheusV applicator in reducing the symptoms of GSM.
Introduction: Although stimulation-induced sensations are typically considered undesirable side effects in clinical DBS therapy, there are emerging scenarios, such as computer-brain interface applications, where these sensations may be intentionally created. The selection of stimulation parameters, whether to avoid or induce sensations, is a challenging task due to the vast parameter space involved. This study aims to streamline DBS parameter selection by employing a machine learning model to predict the occurrence and somatic location of paresthesias in response to thalamic DBS.

Bacteria can generate heterogeneity through phase variation-a preprogrammed, reversible mechanism that alters gene expression levels across a population. One well-studied type of phase variation involves enzyme-mediated inversion of specific regions of genomic DNA.

Presurgical and postsurgical evaluation of gastrointestinal (GI) function reflected by low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) and gastrointestinal function-related quality of life index (GIQLI) scores, complication rates, pain scores/visual analog scale (VAS) and endometriosis health profile (EHP-30) was performed.
Methods: In this prospective multicenter cohort study, 63 premenopausal patients with symptomatic low (within 7 cm from the anal verge) colorectal endometriosis, undergoing low modified limited nerve vessel sparing rectal segmental bowel resection (NVSSR) and full thickness discoid resection (FTDR) were evaluated.
Cells have evolved various DNA repair mechanisms to prevent DNA damage from building up. Malfunctions during DNA repair can influence cellular homeostasis because they can bring on genomic instability through the improper recognition of DNA damage or dysregulation of the repair process. Maintaining proper DNA repair is also essential for stem cells (SCs), as they provide a differentiated cell population to the living organism.

Although the baker's yeast () is the most popular model among yeasts, the contribution of the fission yeasts () to life science is also indisputable. Since both types of yeasts share several thousands of common orthologous genes with humans, they provide a simple research platform to investigate many fundamental molecular mechanisms and functions, thereby contributing to the understanding of the background of human diseases.

Little is known about the long-term survivorship after CAR T-cell therapy.
Methods: We previously reported the results of 298 patients who were leukapheresed with the intent to receive standard-of-care axi-cel (n = 275 infused) after two or more previous lines of therapy at a median follow-up of 12.
Background: Outcomes are poor for patients with large B-cell lymphoma who relapse after CD19-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy (CAR19). CD22 is a nearly universally expressed B-cell surface antigen and the efficacy of a CD22-directed CAR T-cell therapy (CAR22) in large B-cell lymphoma is unknown, which was what we aimed to examine in this study.
Methods: In this single centre, open-label, dose-escalation phase 1 trial, we intravenously administered CAR22 at two dose levels (1 million and 3 million CAR22-positive T cells per kg of bodyweight) to adult patients (aged ≥18 years) who relapsed after CAR19 or had CD19-negative large B-cell lymphoma.
Although chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has revolutionized the treatment of B-cell malignancies, many patients relapse and therefore strategies to improve antitumor immunity are needed. We previously designed a novel autologous bispecific CAR targeting CD19 and CD22 (CAR19-22), which was well tolerated and associated with high response rates but relapse was common. Interleukin-15 (IL15) induces proliferation of diverse immune cells and can augment lymphocyte trafficking.
