Purpose: Para-karate has been gaining popularity rapidly; however, scientific research on the subject remains limited. This study aims to examine the kata preferences at top-level para-karate events and explore the relationship between sport class (type of impairment) and kata selection.

Methods: Data was collected from nine events-four World Para-Karate Championships (2016, 2018, 2021, 2023) and five European Para-Karate Championships (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023).

Precision surgery for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma arises in the setting of cirrhosis in most cases, requiring multidisciplinary input to define resectability. In this regard, more precise surgical management considers patient factors and anatomical states, including resection margins, tumour biology, and perioperative therapy. Together with advances in surgical techniques, this integrated approach has resulted in considerable improvements in patient morbidity and oncological outcomes.

Background & Aims: Gemcitabine/cisplatin (GemCis) was the long-standing first-line treatment for advanced biliary tract cancers (BTCs). Following positive results from the TOPAZ-01 and KEYNOTE-966 trials, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) combined with chemotherapy are now the standard of care. We aim to compare the efficacy of first-line therapies for advanced BTCs.

Emergence of hemorrhagic septicemia caused by MLST type ST64 in a European fallow deer population in Hungary.

A sudden mass mortality involving 44 fallow deer () occurred in September 2020 at a game management area near Budapest, Hungary. The die-off affected both sexes and all age classes equally. On postmortem examination of 2 subadults and 1 fawn, we found average body condition, diffuse subcutaneous edema, swelling of peripheral lymph nodes, marked hemorrhages in lymph nodes along the esophagus and trachea, and left ventricular dilation.

Workload and clinical impact of MRI-based extension of reperfusion therapy time window in acute ischaemic stroke-a prospective single-centre study.

Current European Stroke Organisation (ESO) guidelines recommend extended time window reperfusion therapies (4.5-9 h for thrombolysis, 6-24 h for thrombectomy) based on advanced imaging. However, the workload and clinical benefit of this strategy on a population basis are not known.

Plants respond to higher ambient temperatures by modifying their growth rate and habitus. This review aims to summarize the accumulated knowledge obtained with Arabidopsis seedlings grown at normal and elevated ambient temperatures. Thermomorphogenesis in the shoot and the root is overviewed separately, since the experiments indicate differences in key aspects of thermomorphogenesis in the two organs.

Comprehensive digital documentation of teratology studies.

One of the main endpoints for the evaluation of Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology (DART) studies is the determination of potential effects of a test substance on the skeleton during foetal development. In the course of a DART study according to the OECD 414 guideline, 400-500 gestational day 20-old (GD20), alizarin red and alcian blue-stained (ARAB) rat foetuses have to be assessed by a teratology expert, which is a time consuming and sub-optimally documented process. We have developed a method which allows for a standardised, comprehensive, quick and easy to perform, head-to-toe digital documentation of ARAB-stained GD20 rat foetuses.

The capsules are melanized, and metabolites of the melanization reaction may play a potential role in parasitoid killing. We have observed a variation in the melanization capacity of different, commonly used strains, such as Canton-S, Oregon-R, and BL5905, BL6326.

Rapid High-Sensitivity Analysis of Methane Clumped Isotopes (ΔCHD and ΔCHD) Using Mid-Infrared Laser Spectroscopy.

Mid-infrared laser absorption spectroscopy enables rapid and nondestructive analysis of methane clumped isotopes. However, current analytical methods require a sample size of 20 mL STP (0.82 mmol) of pure CH gas, which significantly limits its application to natural samples.

Purpose: Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is the most common sleep-related breathing disorder. Longer term, repeated episodes of hypercapnia and hypoxemia during sleep are associated with inflammatory and atherosclerosis-related factors. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on cerebral vasoreactivity and early atherosclerosis in patients with severe OSAHS.

Insect hosts and parasitoid wasps are excellent models for illuminating how animal innate immune systems have evolved to neutralize these enemies. One such strategy relies on symbioses between insects and intracellular bacteria that express phage-encoded toxins.

Lack of Clinically Meaningful Effect of Cariprazine on the Pharmacokinetics of a Combined Oral Contraceptive.

Introduction: Cariprazine (CAR) is a potent dopamine receptor partial agonist antipsychotic approved by the EMA and the FDA. To address the uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives during CAR co-administration and whether a second barrier method is necessary, a drug-drug interaction study with an oral contraceptive was conducted post-approval.

Methods: The phase I, fixed-sequence multicenter study involved two periods with 24 patients with schizophrenia, aiming to evaluate the effect of CAR on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of a combined oral contraceptive (COC) containing 30 μg ethinylestradiol (EE) and 150 μg levonorgestrel (LNG).

The recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic underscores the need for rapid and accurate prediction of clinical thrombotic events. Here, we developed nanoengineered multichannel immunosensors for rapid detection of circulating biomarkers associated with thrombosis, including C-reactive protein (CRP), calprotectin, soluble platelet selectin (sP-selectin), and D-dimer. We fabricated the immunosensors using fiber laser engraving of carbon nanotubes and CO laser cutting of microfluidic channels, along with the electrochemical deposition of gold nanoparticles to conjugate with biomarker-specific aptamers and antibody.
