Purpose: Retroverted uterus affects 15-20% of patients. While typically not a cause for concern, some studies suggest a relationship between a retroverted uterus and subfertility. Study objective was to investigate the association between uterine position and spontaneous conception rates, as well as potential risks for adverse pregnancy outcomes in nulliparous patients.

Mixing small proteins with lipids and cholesterol.

Many ternary mixtures composed of saturated and unsaturated lipids with cholesterol (Chol) exhibit a region of coexistence between liquid-disordered (Ld) and liquid-ordered (Lo) domains, bearing some similarities to lipid rafts in biological membranes. However, biological rafts also contain many proteins that interact with the lipids and modify the distribution of lipids. Here, we extend a previously published lattice model of ternary DPPC/DOPC/Chol mixtures by introducing a small amount of small proteins (peptides).

Antimony resistant bacteria isolated from Budúcnosť adit (Pezinok-Kolársky vrch deposit) in western Slovakia.

Potentially toxic elements (PTE), such as antimony (Sb), are dangerous putative contaminants for ground and surface waters around abandoned mines and ore deposits in Slovakia. Nearby mines antimony is commonly coprecipitated in ochre sediments precipitated from Fe-rich drainage waters and, therefore, these sites function as natural scavengers of this metalloid. Bacteria are well known to contribute to the process of redox state maintenance, biosorption and bioaccumulation of antimony and, consequently, to antimony precipitation or release from iron oxides complexes.

Effect of an experimental desensitizer with a hydroxyapatite-capsaicin composite applied before in-office dental bleaching on hydrogen peroxide diffusion, color and surface changes.

Objective: To evaluate a prior application of an experimental desensitizer containing a hydroxyapatite-capsaicin composite (HAp-CAP) in different concentrations on hydrogen peroxide (HP) diffusion into the pulp chamber, bleaching efficacy (BE) and on physical and chemical alterations of the enamel surface after in-office bleaching.

Materials And Methods: Forty sound premolars were randomized in five groups according to each experimental condition (n = 8): no bleaching (negative control), only bleaching (positive control), 0.1%, 1% and 5% of HAp-CAP.

Insecticidal and Repellent Activity of Essential Oil and Its Pure Compounds Against Imported Fire Ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae).

Kunth (Piperaceae) essential oil (EO) was evaluated for its toxicity and repellency against red imported fire ants (RIFA), Buren, and a hybrid (HIFA) of red ( and black ( Forel) imported fire ants. Through bioactivity-guided fractionation, two major components, elemicin and myristicin, were isolated from the EO. Removal of treated sand in a digging bioassay was used as the criterion for repellency.

Evaluation of hydrogen peroxide diffusion in the pulp chamber, bleaching efficacy, and physicochemical properties of an experimental in-office bleaching gel containing a hydroxyapatite-capsaicin composite.

This study assessed the hydrogen peroxide (HP) diffusion into the pulp chamber, bleaching efficacy (BE), surface roughness (Ra), and Knoop microhardness (KHN) of an experimental bleaching gel containing a hydroxyapatite-capsaicin composite (HAp-CAP). Human premolars were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 9) based on the dental bleaching gel used (50 min; one session): only 35% HP, 35% HP + HAp-CAP, and not exposed to bleaching (negative control; NC). HP diffusion (µg/mL) into the pulp chamber was assessed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and BE (ΔE, ΔE, and WI) was evaluated using a digital spectrophotometer.

Authentication and Quality Control of the Brazilian Traditional Herb 'Carquejas' ( Species) Using Morpho-Anatomy and Microscopy.

This research investigates the morpho-anatomical characteristics of seven species, namely , , , , , and . Commonly called carquejas, these species have aerial photosynthetic winged stems known as cladodes and are widely used traditionally to treat digestive and diuretic disorders. This study aimed to characterize these commonly misidentified species using morphological and microscopic techniques, including light and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

Synthesis and Docking Studies of Novel Spiro[5,8-methanoquinazoline-2,3'-indoline]-2',4-dione Derivatives.

In this study, a set of spiro[5,8-methanoquinazoline-2,3'-indoline]-2',4-dione derivatives - were synthesized starting from unsubstituted and -methyl-substituted - and -2-aminonorbornene carboxamides, as well as various substituted isatins. The typical method involves a condensation reaction of alicyclic aminocarboxamide and isatin in the presence of a catalyst, using a solvent and an acceptable temperature. We developed a cost-effective and ecologically benign high-speed ball milling (HSBM), microwave irradiation (MW), and continuous flow (CF) technique to synthesize spiroquinazolinone molecule .

Phase I/II Investigator-Initiated Study of Olaparib and Temozolomide in SCLC: Final Analysis and CNS Outcomes.

Purpose: Temozolomide plus PARP inhibition has shown promise in small cell lung cancer (SCLC). We previously reported outcomes from the first 50 patients (cohort 1) of a phase I/II trial of olaparib/temozolomide in recurrent SCLC. Here, we report a final analysis of this trial, including a second cohort with an alternate dosing strategy and an exploratory analysis of CNS-specific outcomes.

Nanoscale dynamics of the cadherin-catenin complex bound to vinculin revealed by neutron spin echo spectroscopy.

We report a neutron spin echo (NSE) study of the nanoscale dynamics of the cell-cell adhesion cadherin-catenin complex bound to vinculin. Our measurements and theoretical physics analyses of the NSE data reveal that the dynamics of full-length α-catenin, β-catenin, and vinculin residing in the cadherin-catenin-vinculin complex become activated, involving nanoscale motions in this complex. The cadherin-catenin complex is the central component of the cell-cell adherens junction (AJ) and is fundamental to embryogenesis, tissue wound healing, neuronal plasticity, cancer metastasis, and cardiovascular health and disease.

We derive a phase retrieval formula for propagation-based phase contrast X-ray imaging that does not require weakly attenuating objects or short propagation distances. It is directly applicable to both single- and multiple-distance scenarios. We show the validity conditions and study the error of the underlying mutual intensity approximation, which uses the common assumptions of weak phase shift variations and phase-attenuation duality.

In this study, we investigate how time-varying measures of BOLD variability change interictally in episodic migraine patients.

Earth harbors unique environments where only microorganisms adapted to extreme conditions, known as extremophiles, can survive. This study focused on a high-altitude meltwater pond, located in the Puna de Atacama, Dry Andes. The extremophilic bacteria of this habitat must adapt to a range of extremities, including cold and dry climate, high UV radiation, high daily temperature fluctuations, low-nutrient availability, and negative water balance.

Solidification of Polyurethane Model Foams via Catalyst Drainage from a Secondary Foam.

Due to their unique mechanical and thermal properties, polyurethane foams are widely used in multiple fields of applications, including cushioning, thermal insulation or biomedical engineering. However, the way polyurethane foams are usually manufactured - via chemical foaming - produces samples where blowing and gelling occur at the same time, resulting in a morphology control achieved by trial and error processes. Here, a novel strategy is introduced to build model homogeneous polyurethane foams of controlled density with millimetric bubbles from liquid templates.
