In this work, the application of high-power LED and commercial, low-price LED for heterogeneous photocatalysis with TiO and ZnO photocatalysts are studied and compared, focusing on the effect of light intensity, photon energy, quantum yield, electrical energy consumption, and effect of matrices and inorganic components on radical formation. The comparison of the efficiency of the commercially available photocatalysts, TiO and ZnO, irradiated with 365 nm and 398 nm light, is presented for the removal of two antibiotics, sulfamethazine (SMT) and sulfamethoxypyridazine (SMP). The OH formation rate was compared using coumarin, and higher efficiency was proved for TiO than ZnO, while for 1,4-benzoquinone in O-free suspensions, the higher contribution of the photogenerated electrons to the conversion was observed for ZnO than TiO, especially at 398 nm irradiation. An extremely fast transformation and high quantum yield of SMP in the TiO/LED process were observed.

The effectiveness of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) BNT162b2 vaccine in preventing disease and reducing viral loads of breakthrough infections (BTIs) has been decreasing, concomitantly with the rise of the Delta variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). However, it is unclear whether the observed decreased effectiveness of the vaccine in reducing viral loads is inherent to the Delta variant or is dependent on time from immunization. By analyzing viral loads of over 16,000 infections during the current, Delta-variant-dominated pandemic wave in Israel, we found that BTIs in recently fully vaccinated individuals have lower viral loads than infections in unvaccinated individuals.

IKZF1 deletions (ΔIKZF1) are commonly detected in B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL; B-ALL) and are widely assumed to have a significant impact on outcome. We compared the ability of multiplex ligand-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect ΔIKZF1 and to determine the impact on event-free survival of patients with precursor B-ALL aged 23 to 65 years recruited to the completed trial UKALL14 (ISRCTN 66541317). From 655 recruits with BCR-ABL1+ and BCR-ABL1- B-ALL, all available diagnostic DNA samples (76% of the recruited population) were screened by multiplex end point PCR covering 4 deletions: dominant-negative (DN) Δ4-7 or the loss of function Δ2-7, Δ4-8, and Δ2-8 (n = 498), MLPA (n = 436), or by both (n = 420).

BiOI, BiOCl, and their composites (BiOI:BiOCl) with molar ratios from 95:5 to 5:95 were synthesized and tested in the transformation of methyl orange (MO) and sulfamethoxypyridazine (SMP) antibiotic, using three various LED light sources: UV LEDs (398 nm), cool and warm white LEDs (400-700 nm). The 80:20 BiOI:BiOCl photocatalyst showed the best adsorption capacity for MO and enhanced activity compared to BiOI and BiOCl. The apparent quantum yield (Φ) of the MO and SMP transformation for cool and warm white light was slightly lower than for 398 nm UV radiation.
