Introduction: Given the significant interindividual variable responses to interventions for obesity, the early identification of factors associated with a differential in weight loss would benefit real-world approaches in clinical practice.

Objective: This study evaluated the factors associated with individual variability in response to enrolling in a weight management program integrated into an academic-based primary care practice.

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected and analyzed for patients referred to a primary care-based weight management practice between 2012 and 2020.

Both educators and graduates have expressed concern about a perceived pharmacology knowledge gap that includes difficulty applying fundamental principles to clinical and research problems. Mechanisms of anion permeation within ion channels and nanopores remain poorly understood. Recent cryo-electron microscopy structures of the human bestrophin 1 Cl channel (hBest1) provide an opportunity to evaluate ion interactions predicted by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations against experimental observations. Bringing Pandemic Science to the Classroom: Building Public Health Capacity at a Rural Kentucky High School.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a multidisciplinary team at the University of Kentucky developed an interdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and environmental health unit-the Wastewater Assessment for Coronavirus in Kentucky: Implementing Enhanced Surveillance Technology (WACKIEST) Unit-for high school students in summer 2022. This case study outlines the WACKIEST Unit, which focused on wastewater surveillance and COVID-19, the obstacles faced during development and recruitment, and implementation of the WACKIEST Unit in conjunction with a rural wastewater surveillance initiative. The unit was implemented in spring 2023 at a rural high school in Kentucky, spanning 12 days and engaging 190 students.

Background: Farm operators are at a high risk of developing skin cancer due to their occupational sun exposure. With the growing incidence of skin cancer, it is also important to evaluate other occupational risk factors. Farm operators confront numerous physical, chemical, and biological hazards in their work environment.

Recommendations to reduce and prevent negative health outcomes and healthcare costs among night shift nurses: An AAN consensus paper.

A growing body of evidence demonstrates occupational night shift hazards. Decades of research point to health risks for nurses contributing to chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cognitive/mental health, and cancers-all associated with earlier mortality. Patient safety, recruitment and retention of quality nursing workforce, and related costs are important concerns associated with night shift work.

Functional adaptations in coronary reactivity following healthy pregnancy in swine.

This study tested the hypothesis that coronary artery adaptations during the postpartum period are related to underlying reductions in endothelium-dependent relaxation and/or augmented smooth muscle vasoconstrictor responsiveness. In vivo experiments were performed in control (nonpregnant) and postpartum swine 35-45 days post-delivery, with isometric tension experiments performed in isolated coronary arteries from those animals. Coronary artery rings demonstrated increases in active tension generation following incremental increases in passive stretch with no differences between groups.

The provision of social care for people in prison in England has historically been lacking. Seeking to address this, the 2014 Care Act clarified that local authorities are responsible for identifying, assessing and meeting prisoners' social care needs. Against this background, in 2020 we undertook a survey to explore the emerging services for this group.

An increase in the consumer demand and the availability of gluten-free products has led to several brewers investigating brewing with grains other than barley. The primary grain of choice has been sorghum. These new gluten-free beers have a unique flavor and aroma, which previous research has shown is the result of differences in concentration for key chemical compounds, including ethyl butyrate, butyl acetate, isoamyl acetate, ethyl caproate, hexyl acetate, 1-octanol, nonanal, ethyl octanoate, and ethyl decanoate.

SAR86 is one of the most abundant groups of bacteria in the global surface ocean. However, since its discovery over 30 years ago, it has remained recalcitrant to isolation and many details regarding this group are still unknown. Here, we report the cellular characteristics from the first SAR86 isolate brought into culture, Magnimaribacter mokuoloeensis strain HIMB1674, and use its closed genome in concert with over 700 environmental genomes to assess the phylogenomic and functional characteristics of this order-level lineage of marine Gammaproteobacteria.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the negative impact of moral injury on nurses' well-being. However, there is a lack of research about generational differences among nurses, particularly on newer nurses who have been identified as having a higher rate of intention to leave.

Objective: This study examines generational differences among nurses on moral injury, well-being, resilience, and intention to leave their nursing position and profession.

Fostering leadership development and growth of nurse leaders: Experiences from Midwest Nursing Research Society Leadership Academy.

Leadership development and growth of nurse leaders is critically important for the thriving of the nursing profession. Formal leadership training programs are helpful in building leadership knowledge and skills. The Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) launched the Leadership Academy (LA), a new initiative to foster leadership development and intentionally create a steady pool of members prepared to step into MNRS leadership positions.

Promotion of sports, exercise and physical activity participation during postoperative interventions for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: protocol for an international e-Delphi study.

Introduction: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is present in 2%-3% of those under 18 years old and has a significant impact on pain, function and quality of life. Up to 10% of adolescents with AIS progress to spinal fusion surgery, and of those individuals many experience reduced musculoskeletal function and do not return to sports postoperatively. Physiotherapists have a significant role in promoting participation and offering a graded return to sports, exercise and physical activity.

The effectiveness of a mental health, parenting support, and violence prevention program for families affected by the war in Ukraine: Findings from a pre-post study.

Background: Nearly one in six children lived in war zones in 2023. Evidence-based psychosocial and parenting support has potential to mitigate negative impacts for parents and children co-exposed to war and displacement, especially in relation to mental health and harsh parenting reactions. In the current war in Ukraine, local mental health experts co-created and evaluated, with global experts, the effectiveness of psychosocial and parenting support groups, called on improvements in mental health, positive parenting, and violence against children.
