Background: The recognition of autoimmune causes of encephalitis has led to epidemiological shifts in the worldwide characteristics of encephalitis. -methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibody encephalitis leads to well-established complex neuropsychiatric manifestations. In low- and middle-income countries, including Vietnam, its relative incidence, especially in children, is unknown and most neurologists currently consider infectious encephalitis prior to autoimmune etiologies.

WHO declared the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus as a global pandemic (coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)) in March 2020. Molnupiravir (MPV) is an oral antiviral drug that received use authorization for mild to moderate COVID-19 treatment in adults. However, the global and national drug testing and research of MPV is still difficult due to lack of standards and validated procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the presence of nitrosamine-related impurities and AZBT in sartan medications, classifying them as human mutagens and carcinogens based on long-term treatment effects.
  • A new, efficient method was developed for simultaneous quantification of these impurities using reversed-phase liquid chromatography combined with tandem mass spectrometry.
  • The method showed high extraction efficiency, wide linear range, and strong recovery rates, and was applied to analyze 16 losartan samples, finding AZBT in some but no nitrosamine impurities in any.

Article Synopsis
  • - VPS34 is an important protein that helps cells deal with stress by playing key roles in autophagy and endocytosis, acting as a Class III phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase to produce necessary lipids for these processes.
  • - It forms two distinct complexes that are crucial for autophagy and the sorting of cellular materials, with shared subunits like VPS15, VPS34, and Beclin 1, and a specific subunit ATG14 in complex I.
  • - Research on VPS34's role in various diseases has made its regulation a significant focus for potential drug therapies, as understanding its mechanisms could provide insights into treating conditions related to autophagy.

Generalized lymphangiomatosis (GLA) is a very rare condition in adults, characterized by diffused proliferation of lymphatic vessels that requires differential diagnosis from other vascular disorders such as cavernous or capillary hemangioma. This is because of overlapping characteristics on histopathological examination. Therefore, imaging features such as CT and MRI are useful to evaluate morphological characteristics, location, and the extent of the spread as well as differential diagnosis with other pathologies.

Desmoid fibromatosis (DFs) is rare, low-grade neoplasm. Although it poses no risk of metastasis, DFs exhibits a range of clinical manifestations characterized by local infiltrative growth tendencies and a propensity for recurrence. Despite its nonmalignant nature, DFs can be highly debilitating and occasionally life-threatening, causing severe pain and functional limitations.

Alchemical binding free energy calculations are one of the most accurate methods for estimating ligand-binding affinity. Assessing the accuracy of the approach over protein targets is one of the most interesting issues. The free energy difference of binding between a protein and a ligand was calculated the alchemical approach.

Purpose: Evaluation of diagnostic value for lymph node (LN) metastasis and LN identification using indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence in laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

Methods: A prospective study on 79 patients who underwent radical subtotal gastrectomy with the use of ICG-guided LN dissection. The sensitivity and specificity of the ICG fluorescence lymphography method in detecting metastatic LNs were evaluated.

Cases of vulvovaginitis caused by genus are exceedingly uncommon, with only a handful of instances having been described for this causative species. This report describes a rare case of vulvovaginitis suspected to be caused by in a 58-year-old woman residing in an urban area of Hanoi city, Vietnam. The patient with a 10-year history of depression and type 2 diabetes mellitus was admitted to the hospital due to vulvar itching and vaginal discharge.

Ethanol is the most commonly encountered substance in forensic toxicology. Determining blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in autopsies accounts for the majority of work in forensic diagnosis. The most common method to assess BAC is the enzymatic oxidation method because of its low cost, easy operation, and high throughput.

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is believed to cause birth defects, and no anti-ZIKV drugs have been approved by medical organizations to date. Starting from antimicrobial lead compounds with a pyrazolo[3,4-]pyridazine-7-one scaffold, we synthesized 16 derivatives and screened their ability to interfere with ZIKV infection utilizing a cell-based phenotypic assay. Of these, five compounds showed significant inhibition of ZIKV with a selective index value greater than 4.

Pleistocene Pongo teeth show substantial variation in size and morphology, fueling taxonomic debates about the paleodiversity of the genus. We investigated prominent features of the enamel-dentine-junction junction (EDJ)-phylogenetically informative internal structures-of 71 fossil Pongo lower molars from various sites by applying geometric morphometrics and conducted paleoproteomic analyses from enamel proteins to attempt to identify extinct orangutan species. Forty-three orangutan lower molars representing Pongo pygmaeus and Pongo abelii were included for comparison.

  • Secure environmental contexts are key for understanding hominin behaviors and habitats, with the Tam Ngu Hao 2 (Cobra) Cave providing important insights into Denisovan life around 164-131 ka.
  • The analysis reveals that while Denisovans were adapted to various landscapes, including forests and open areas, individuals from Cobra Cave primarily consumed resources from open forests and savannah despite nearby rainforests.
  • Additionally, as local rainforest expanded around 130 ka, the study raises questions about how Denisovans adapted to these changes, contrasting with early Homo sapiens, who were more capable of exploiting rainforest resources.

Leptin and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) are two extensively studied biomarkers associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and osteoarthritis (OA). Previous studies have mostly focused on either MetS or OA alone, with no available data on Vietnamese patients. This study aimed to investigate the levels of leptin and IL-1β in this patient population and explore their association with clinical parameters of MetS and OA.

The chemical investigation of propolis collected in Binh Dinh province, Vietnam, led to the isolation of nine compounds, including four sesquiterpenes: spathulenol (), 1H,5H-aromandendrane-4,10-diol (), 1,6-dihydroxy-4(15)-eudesmene (), and 1H,5H-aromandendrane-4,10-diol (); three triterpenes: acetyl oleanolic acid (), 3-hydroxytirucalla-8,24-dien-21-oic acid (), and ursolic acid (); and two xanthones: cochinchinone A () and -mangostin (). Sesquiterpens - and triterpene were isolated for the first time from stingless bee propolis. Plants in the and genus were suggested as resin sources of the propolis sample.

Eu-doped phosphors have been much attractive owing to their narrow-band red emission peak at 610-630 nm with high color purity; however, the weak and narrow absorption band in the NUV region limits their applications. Doping a higher amount of Eu ions into a non-concentration quenching host could be key to enhancing the efficiency of the absorption value and emission intensity. Hence, the design of Eu-heavily doped phosphors with a suitable host lattice is key for applications.

Phosphor-converted white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) have received significant attention; however, the leaked light from their blue InGaN chips has an undesirable effect on human health. Hence, it is necessary to develop red, green, and blue-emitting phosphors, which can be excited by an NUV chip instead of a blue chip. Herein, green-emitting ZnO:Cu phosphors have been successfully synthesized by a simple and facile thermal diffusion method.
