This study focuses on the determination of dioxins and related compounds (DRCs) in sediment and soil samples gathered from craft villages and industrial zones in Bac Ninh province, northern Vietnam. The PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs levels in sediment samples ranged from 8.34 to 1302 pg/g and 34.

Advances in Novel Targeted Therapies for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with limited therapeutic options and poor prognosis. Recent advances in targeted therapies have opened new avenues for intervention in PDAC, focusing on key genetic and molecular pathways that drive tumor progression.

Methods: In this review, we provide an overview on advances in novel targeted therapies in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Evaluating the suitability of incorporating sugarcane bagasse ash, polypropylene fibers, and sea sand-seawater in enhancing physico-mechanical properties of lightweight foamed concrete.

This study aims to explore the feasibility of replacing traditional components, such as Portland cement, river sand and tap water with sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA), polypropylene (PP) fibers, and sea sand-seawater (SSSW) in lightweight foamed concrete (LWFC) production. SCBA was used in the range from 0 to 15% as cement replacement, and PP fibers were used with dosage from 0% to 1% by volume of LWFC. Meanwhile, SSSW was used to completely replace river sand and tap water.

Reconstructing suspended sediment concentrations in the Mekong River Basin via semi-supervised-based deep neural networks.

The Mekong River Basin (MRB) is crucial for the livelihoods of over 60 million people across six Southeast Asian countries. Understanding long-term sediment changes is crucial for management and contingency plans, but the sediment concentration data in the MRB are extremely sporadic, making analysis challenging. This study focuses on reconstructing long-term suspended sediment concentration (SSC) data using a novel semi-supervised machine learning (ML) model.

Introduction: Augmentation rhinoplasty is one of five aesthetic surgeries in the world. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) has been reported as a rational choice to augment the nasal dorsum and tip. However, its application for nasal tip augmentation has some debates.

Efficacy of lengthening right renal veins using accompanying gonadal veins in living donor kidney transplantation.

Background: Short harvested right renal veins (RV) are quite common in living donor kidney transplantation (KT). This technical difficulty might interfere implanting and increase warm ischemic time. Several techniques to overcome this problem have been applied, including iliac vein transposition, inverted transplant, synthetic graft, saphenous vein… Application of accompanying gonadal vein (GV), which is easily approachable and less time-consuming, has been recently published.

Effective Management of Severe Amlodipine/Atenolol Overdose with Intravenous Calcium, Hyperinsulinemic Euglycemia Therapy, and Continuous Veno-Venous Hemodialysis: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, and atenolol, a beta blocker, are commonly used as a fixed drug combination (FDC) to treat hypertension. Intentional or non-intentional overdose of amlodipine-atenolol results in hypotension and myocardial depression with a high risk of mortality. This report describes a 64-year-old man with an overdose of amlodipine-atenolol, presenting as an emergency with hypotension, bradycardia, and severe metabolic acidosis.

Surface ligand modified silver nanoparticles-based SERS sensing platform for ultrasensitive detection of the pesticide thiram in green tea leaves: roles of coating agents in sensing performance.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been regarded as a highly promising substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors. In this study, we focused on the electrochemical synthesis method by developing three kinds of AgNPs using three different electrolytes: citrate (e-Ag-C), oleic acid (e-Ag-O) and fish mint ( Thunb.) extract (e-Ag-bio).

Outcomes of liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: Experiences from a Vietnamese center.

Backgrounds/aims: Liver transplantation (LT) provides a favorable outcome for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and was launched in Vietnam in 2004. In this study, we evaluated the short-term and long-term outcomes of LT and its risk factors.

Methods: This retrospective study analyzed HCC patients who underwent LT at Viet Duc University hospital, Vietnam, from 01/2012-03/2022.

Vocal fingerprinting reveals a substantially smaller global population of the Critically Endangered cao vit gibbon (Nomascus nasutus) than previously thought.

The cao vit gibbon (Nomascus nasutus) is one of the rarest primates on Earth and now only survives in a single forest patch of less than 5000 ha on the Vietnam-China border. Accurate monitoring of the last remaining population is critical to inform ongoing conservation interventions and track conservation success over time. However, traditional methods for monitoring gibbons, involving triangulation of groups from their songs, are inherently subjective and likely subject to considerable measurement errors.

Noncovalent Dualism in Perylene-Diimide-Based Keggin Anion Complexes: Theoretical and Experimental studies.

We report the synthesis and comprehensive characterization of organic-inorganic hybrid salts formed by bis-cationic bis(2-(trimethylammonium)ethylene)perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid bisimide (PTCD) and Keggin-type [XWO] (X = Si, = 4; X = P, = 3) polyoxometalates. (PTCD)[PWO]·3DMSO·2HO () and (PTCD)[SiWO]·DMSO·2HO () were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The cations in both structures exhibited infinite chainlike arrangements through π-π interactions, contrasting with the previously reported cation-anion stacking observed in naphthalene diimide derivatives.

Efficacy and safety of 595-nm pulsed dye laser treating port wine stains in Vietnamese patients: analysis of 124 cases and optimal treatment regimens.

The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and safety of 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) for port wine stains (PWS) treatment in Vietnamese patients. The study also analyzed the association between the response to treatment and the characteristics of patients and treatment regimens. Parallelly, the study contributed to further optimal treatment sessions for different subjects based on the data collected.

Bladder bowel dysfunction scoring system (BBDSS): A novel, illustrated questionnaire for evaluation of voiding dysfunction in children.

Introduction: We sought to evaluate the reliability and validity of a new, illustrated questionnaire, the bladder bowel dysfunction symptom score (BBDSS) in the assessment of overactive bladder (OAB) and bladder bowel dysfunction (BBD).

Methods: The BBDSS questionnaire consisted of 12 structured questions. This pilot study was designed with two principal groups of questions: one group to assess bladder symptoms and the other to assess bowel dysfunction during the preceding month.

Complications of severe breast deformities after a silicone injection over 20-year and a successful surgical treatment.

Breast deformities caused by silicone injections affect aesthetic results and cause irreversible complications in patients. In the treatment, it is necessary to entirely remove silicone particles and infiltrated and fibrous breast tissues. The maximal preservation of healthy breast tissues is also critical.

Mutation spectrum of retinoblastoma patients in Vietnam.

Background: Retinoblastoma (RB), an intraocular malignancy commonly diagnosed in children, is mostly caused by inactivating mutations of both alleles of the RB1 gene. Early genetic screening for RB1 gene mutations would greatly improve treatment outcomes and patient management.

Methods: In this study, both somatic and germline mutations were detected in blood and tumour samples of 42 RB patients using direct sequencing and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification.

Complicated Surgical Site Infection with Mycobacterium Abscessus After Liposuction and Affections of Corticosteroids in the Treatment Regimen: Three Cases Report and a Systematic Review.

Introduction: Mycobacterium abscessus infection after liposuction/fat grafting is a rare complication that is hard to diagnose and treat. Misdiagnosis could result in treatment failure and prolonged hospital stays. The paradoxical reaction is another complication that rarely occurs in non-HIV patients infected with nontuberculosis mycobacteria.

A manganese dioxide-silver nanostructure-based SERS nanoplatform for ultrasensitive tricyclazole detection in rice samples: effects of semiconductor morphology on charge transfer efficiency and SERS analytical performance.

Taking advantage of metal-semiconductor junctions, functional nanocomposites have been designed and developed as active substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing systems. In this work, we prepared three types of nanocomposites based on manganese oxide (MnO) nanostructures and electrochemically synthesized silver nanoparticles (e-AgNPs), which differed according to the morphologies of MnO. The SERS performance of MnO nanosheet/e-Ag (MnO-s/e-Ag), MnO nanorod/e-Ag (MnO-r/e-Ag), and MnO nanowire/e-Ag (MnO-w/e-Ag) was then evaluated using tricyclazole (TCZ), a commonly used pesticide, as an analyte.

Clinical features and outcome of retinoblastoma at the Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.

Objectives: To characterize the clinical features, treatment, and outcome of children diagnosed with retinoblastoma (RB) at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital.

Methods: The study enrolled all RB patients newly diagnosed at Vietnam National Cancer Hospital from January 2018 to December 2022. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) and the eye salvage rate.

Objective: The present study examined the use of a single-stage reconstructive procedure to manage radiation-related wounds.

Materials And Methods: Nine patients with radiation-induced chronic ulcer with accompanying severe complications were admitted to the Plastic, Reconstructive, and Regenerative Center of Viet Nam National Burn Hospital between October 2015 and September 2019.
