Accumulating evidence indicates that the mechanical microenvironment exerts profound influences on inflammation and immune modulation, which are likely to be key factors in successful tissue regeneration. The elastic modulus (Em) of the matrix may be a useful adjustable property to control macrophage activation and the overall inflammatory response. This study constituted a series of Em-tunable liquid crystalline cell model (HpCEs) resembling the viscoelastic characteristic of ECM and explored how mechanical microenvironment induced by liquid crystalline soft matter matrix affected macrophage activation and phenotypes.

Objective: To observe abnormal tinnitus activity by evaluating the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) changes in the brain was which detected by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in patients with intractable tinnitus before and after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). A catalytic site-selective ring deconstruction of cyclobuteno[]naphthalene-4-ones with alcohols is reported, enabling the direct production of a wide range of unsymmetric 1,1-diarylated olefins with good yields and complete regioselectivity. The late-stage application of these resulting terminal olefins demonstrates great possibilities to apply this strategy to complex molecules. Whey protein hydrolysate (WPH), maltodextrin (MD), low methoxy pectin (LMP) and high methoxy pectin (HMP) were used to study the interface binding under high temperature sterilization conditions (121 °C, 15 min). The effect of competitive binding of MD and pectin with interface protein on the storage stability and gastrointestinal fate of fish oil emulsion was studied. The low-molecular-weight MD and the interface protein undergo a wide range of covalent binding through the Maillard reaction, while a small amount of high-molecular-weight pectin can form a protective shell with the interface protein through electrostatic interaction to inhibit the covalent reaction of MD, which was called competitive binding.

Metal-organic framework (MOF) gel, an emerging subtype of MOF structure, is unique in formation and function; however, its evolutionary process remains elusive. Here, the evolution of a model gel-based MOF, UiO-66(Zr) gel, is explored by demonstrating its sequential sol-gel self-assembly and nonclassical gel-crystal transformation. The control of the sol-gel process enables the observation and characterization of structures in each assembly stage (phase-separation, polycondensation, and hindered-crystallization) and facilitates the preparation of hierarchical materials with giant mesopores.
