Injury to the inferior phrenic artery after blunt trauma is an extremely rare event, and it may occur under unanticipated conditions. This case report describes an injury to the left inferior phrenic artery caused by blunt trauma, which was complicated by massive hemothorax, and treated with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). An 81 year-old female hit by a car while walking at the traffic intersection was transferred to the emergency department, computed tomography scanning revealed active extravasations of the contrast medium within the retrocrural space and from branches of the internal iliac artery.

The purpose of this study was to develop an optimizing program of scanning parameters for double inversion recovery (DIR) MRI. The optimization algorithm consists of the following steps: (1) obtaining the initial parameters (TR, TE, and T1 values of the two attenuated tissues); (2) iterative calculation for minimization of errors; and (3) determination of the optimized TI(1st) and TI(2nd). Purpose: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the utility of F-18-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (F-18 FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in assessing patients diagnosed with immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease (IgG4-RD) with inflammation of the head and neck glands.

Methods: We reviewed the records of 17 patients (16 men and 1 woman) with IgG4-RD exhibiting inflammation of the head and neck glands (lacrimal or salivary glands; LSG) who were diagnosed by excisional biopsy of the LSG. Chronic low-grade inflammation of adipose tissue plays a crucial role in the pathophysiology of obesity. Immunohistological microscopic analysis in obese fat tissue has demonstrated the infiltration of several immune cells such as macrophages, but dynamics of immune cells have not been fully elucidated and clarified. Conclusion: The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of early oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) may have a role as an imaging biomarker for assessment of malignant potential, including cell metabolism and angiogenesis.

Hydrophobins are amphipathic proteins secreted by filamentous fungi. When the industrial fungus Aspergillus oryzae is grown in a liquid medium containing the polyester polybutylene succinate co-adipate (PBSA), it produces RolA, a hydrophobin, and CutL1, a PBSA-degrading cutinase. Secreted RolA attaches to the surface of the PBSA particles and recruits CutL1, which then condenses on the particles and stimulates the hydrolysis of PBSA.

The rational design of ligands targeting human telomeric DNA G-quadruplexes is a complex problem due to the structural polymorphism that these sequences can adopt in physiological conditions. Moreover, the ability of ligands to switch conformational equilibria between different G-quadruplex structures is often overlooked in docking approaches. Here, we demonstrate that three of the most potent G-quadruplex ligands (360A, Phen-DC3, and pyridostatin) induce conformational changes of telomeric DNA G-quadruplexes to an antiparallel structure (as determined by circular dichroism) containing only one specifically coordinated K(+) (as determined by electrospray mass spectrometry) and, hence, presumably only two consecutive G-quartets.

Adiponectin (Adipo), a multimeric adipocyte-secreted protein abundant in the circulation, is implicated in cardiovascular protective functions. Recent work documented that Adipo locally associates with responsive tissues through interactions with T-cadherin (Tcad), an atypical, glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cadherin cell surface glycoprotein. Mice deficient for Tcad lack tissue-associated Adipo, accumulate Adipo in the circulation, and mimic the Adipo knockout (KO) cardiovascular phenotype.
