Recently, unusual examples of tumors of the mixed glioneuronal type have been reported, including the papillary glioneuronal tumor (PGNT). A 23-year-old woman with a 2-3 months history of headache and insomnia presented with a tumor. Neuroimaging showed a right temporal lobe cystic tumor with a mural nodule enhanced by contrast medium.

Methods: A consecutive series of 31 patients (7 males, 24 females; age, 14-93, mean 70 years) with full-thickness, rectal prolapse were treated by Delorme's procedure between 1994 and 2002. Median follow-up was 39 (range, 6-96) months.
Background: The mechanism of continuous massive hemorrhage into the subperiosteal space in children without coagulation defects is unknown. We report a case of giant expanding cephalhematoma reversed by the administration of blood coagulation factor XIII concentrate.
Method: The patient was an 8-year-old boy with a history of minor head trauma who developed a giant expanding cephalhematoma with intraorbital extension.
We report a rare case of perianal endometriosis, diagnosed in a 39-year-old woman who presented with a several-day history of a painful mass in the perineum. Perianal examination showed redness and swelling in the right anterior direction. A soft tumor was palpated, but there was no evidence of an episiotomy scar, or of fistula orifices.

Study Design: Imaging and histological study of the cadaver.
Methods: Five cadavers were studied by a 1.
To address the molecular mechanisms of cementogenesis, we have isolated dental follicle cells and examined them to see if they contain cementoblast progenitors. Dental follicle tissue was dissected from the root surface of bovine tooth germ and cells were released by digestion with bacterial collagenase. The released cells were maintained as a bovine dental follicle cells (BDFC).

Methods: 24 patients with a clinical diagnosis of INPH were studied. Control groups comprised 17 patients with secondary normal pressure hydrocephalus (SNPH), 21 patients with brain atrophy, and 18 healthy volunteers.
Background: Lactobacilli are one of the probiotics and there is strong evidence for the efficacy of lactobacilli administration as a nonspecific immunostimulant in increasing host defense mechanisms. The present study tested the hypothesis that heat-killed Lactobacillus casei (LC9018) has a protective activity against fecal peritonitis.
Methods: Cecal ligation and tip resection (CLTR) induced fecal peritonitis was developed as a novel mouse model of abdominal sepsis, and the effects of LC9018 pretreatment on survival after CLTR, of the peritoneal exudate cells before or after CLTR and of bacterial growth in the peritoneal cavity after CLTR were investigated.
A 9-year-old girl with a 1-month history of generalized seizure presented with a distinctive tumor resembling pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma. Neuroimagings showed a right frontotemporal lobe tumor. Histological examination of the resected tumor indicated similarity to pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma without staining for glial fibrillary acidic protein.

This dehiscence was investigated in cadaveric and dried temporal bone specimens. One cadaveric specimen showed a spontaneous defect: the dehiscence was a symmetrical, elongated ellipse with smooth margins.

To examine the origin, course and distribution of this nervous branch, 42 head halves of 21 Japanese cadavers (11 males, 10 females) and 142 head halves of 71 human dry skulls were used. The branch was observed in seven sides (16.

However, such emergency procedures are associated with various complications, a high mortality rate and a poor prognosis. If the obstruction could be immediately relieved, the patient could later undergo an elective operation with a much better prognosis.

Fast IR imaging with real reconstruction and T1-weighted spin echo (SE) imaging before and after contrast administration were performed in 20 patients with gliomas. The tumor-to-white matter contrast ratio (TWCR), tumor-to-gray matter contrast ratio (TGCR), tumor-to-white matter contrast-to-noise ratio (TWCNR), and tumor-to-gray matter contrast-to-noise ratio (TGCNR) were calculated and compared.

The middle cranial fossa approach is mainly applied to the small acoustic neuroma and tumor size does not influence the prognosis of facial palsy. The internal auditory canal cannot be fully opened in the middle cranial fossa approach, and the facial nerve is tightly attached in the fundus.

Cerebral degenerative diseases produce a variety of abnormal neuro-otological findings on electronystamography (ENG). To assess their diagnostic value and determine which manifestations are helpful in making a diagnosis, ENG findings from 72 cases of confirmed cerebral degenerative disease were analyzed. We observed a high incidence of saccadic pursuit and upward ocular dysmetria, which is likely to be useful in diagnosing cerebral degenerative disease.

The area of the IAC and the ratio of areas (neuroma side:normal side) were calculated. The shape of the IAC was fitted by an ellipse to obtain the length of the axes and the direction of the long axis.

CGS16949A induced an increase in the G0-G1 fraction on SK-BR-3 cells, and the growth inhibition rate of the combination of both (65.7 +/- 3.

Background: This study was conducted to investigate the usefulness of intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) volume measurement using MR-based methods in the management of patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).
Methods: The study group comprised 19 patients with NPH who showed a favorable outcome after ventricular shunting, 15 normal volunteers (NV), and 15 patients with cerebrovascular disease (CVD). A 3D-fast asymmetric spin echo MR imaging sequence and the region-growing method were used to extract the CSF space from MR images.
Two hundred and seventy-one Japanese patients who underwent surgical removal of neuroma from the cerebello-pontine angle using the translabyrinthine approach were retrospectively reviewed in order to investigate the nerve origin on an anatomical basis. In 269 out of the 271 cases, the origin of the neuromas was identified. Among these cases, 84.

Andersen's syndrome is characterized by periodic paralysis, cardiac arrhythmias, and dysmorphic features. We have mapped an Andersen's locus to chromosome 17q23 near the inward rectifying potassium channel gene KCNJ2. A missense mutation in KCNJ2 (encoding D71V) was identified in the linked family.
