Purpose: To investigate tracheal reconstruction with autologous bladder wall using modern refined surgical procedures.
Methods: Experiments were performed on 16 female beagle dogs. Six tracheal cartilages were resected to create a tracheal deficit, then tracheal replacement with autologous bladder wall was performed.
Objective: During thoracoabdominal surgery in which segmental arteries are sacrificed over a large area, blood supply routes from collateral networks have received attention as a means of avoiding spinal cord injury. The aim of this study was to investigate spinal cord blood supply through a collateral network by directly measuring spinal cord blood flow and spinal cord perfusion pressure experimentally.
Methods: In beagle dogs (n = 8), the thoracoabdominal aorta and segmental arteries L1-L7 were exposed, and a temporary bypass was created for distal perfusion.
We herein report a case of a young Japanese female who was confirmed to have cystic echinococcosis (CE) 1 stage based on the World Health Organization Informal Working Group on Echinococcosis pathological classification of CE, and she was also suspected to be infected with eggs of the G1 Echinococcus granulosus sensu stricto during her stay in the United Kingdom and therefore, suffered from synchronous pulmonary and hepatic CE. Oral albendazole was administered initially, but rupture of a lung hydatid cyst was observed. To avoid additional rupture, we performed two surgeries.

Purpose: The applicability of absorbable materials as ligatures of pulmonary vessels has not been described. The present study compares tissue reactions around sites of pulmonary arteries ligated with absorbable material (Vicryl) and with nonabsorbable material (silk).
Methods: Beagle dogs underwent thoracotomy and the pulmonary artery branches were ligated with silk or Vicryl under general anesthesia.
A 63-year-old woman underwent right upper lobectomy for small cell carcinoma. She received a total of 2 courses of carboplatin and etoposide infusion as adjuvant therapy. One year after the operation, because of elevated serum Pro GRP levels and a metastatic brain tumor revealed by CT, 4 courses of IP therapy (irinotecan 60 mg/m(2), day 1, 8, 15 and cisplatin 60 mg/m(2), day 1, every 4 weeks) and whole brain radiotherapy (2 Gy f, 5 f/week, total 40 Gy) were given.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFComputed tomography (CT) of an 18-year-old man with a history of repeated episodes of pneumonia demonstrated consolidation containing multiple cysts in the right lower lobe. Additional CT angiography and thin-section CT of the lesion revealed neither a supplying systemic artery nor an abnormal bronchus. Lobectomy was performed, and histological examination showed many cysts resembling enlarged bronchioles, diagnosed as congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation.

We present a case of a bronchogenic pulmonary cyst in a 48-year-old patient. We performed [corrected] mucoclasis using argon laser photocoagulation following resection of mucosa, closure of some drainage bronchus, and covering of the inner surface by the intrapulmonary bronchogenic cyst with an [corrected] absorbable vicryl mesh. At [corrected] 4-year [corrected] follow-up, the patient had no signs of recurrence.

A 73-year-old female was referred to our hospital in June 2000 for the evaluation of an abnormal shadow in the left upper lobe of her lung and two other shadows in the left lower lobe. A computed tomography examination revealed an ill-defined tumor with ground glass opacity in the left upper division segment, suggesting a primary lung adenocarcinoma, and two well-defined nodules in the left lower lobe, suggesting metastatic carcinomas. A transbronchial lung biopsy of the tumor in the upper division segment confirmed the presence of an adenocarcinoma but failed to provide a histological diagnosis for the nodules in the lower lobe.
