Prenatal ethanol exposure causes the reduction of serotonergic (5-HTergic) neurons in the midbrain raphe nuclei. In the present study, we examined whether an activation of signaling via 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors during the fetal period is able to prevent the reduction of 5-HTergic neurons induced by prenatal ethanol exposure. Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were given a liquid diet containing 2.

Although the effects of PB in blocking the surge release of luteinizing hormone (LH), inducing anovulation and prolonging the diestrous period has been well established, there is still no research describing the appearance of persistent estrous states in normal cycling rats dosed with PB. To further study this phenomenon, female rats exhibiting regular estrous cycle were administered an oral dose of PB for 14 consecutive days.

To assess morphological and functional changes induced in the ovary by bromocriptine, the compound was administered to female rats at dose levels of 0, 0.08, 0.

In a previous study we demonstrated that one of the components of the perivitelline membrane, ZP3, which is secreted from the ovarian granulosa cells, specifically interacts with ZP1, another constituent that is synthesized in the liver of Japanese quail. In the present study, we investigated whether ZP1 injected exogenously into the blood possesses the ability to reconstruct the perivitelline membrane of Japanese quail.

We previously reported that one of its components, ZPC, is synthesized in granulosa cells that are specifically incorporated into the PL; this incorporation might be mediated by a specific interaction with ZPB1, another PL constituent, which is synthesized in the liver. In order to extend our previous findings, we established an expression system for quail ZPB1 using a mammalian cell line, and several ZPB1 mutants lacking the zona pellucida (ZP) domain or the glutamine-rich repeat region were produced.
