The reasons for the low frequency of anti-Ro/SS-A antibody in patients with HTLV-1-associated myelopathy complicated with Sjögren's syndrome (SS) are unclear. In this study, we investigated whether HTLV-1-infected T cells can act directly on B cells and suppress B cells' production of antibodies, including anti-Ro/SS-A antibody. For this purpose, we established an in vitro T-cell-free B-cell antibody production system.

Morel-Lavallée lesion (MLL) is a closed soft tissue injury following trauma that is often missed. If not treated appropriately, they can lead to infection and is difficult to treat. High-energy trauma with shear forces should be treated with MLL in mind.

Introduction: The rising number of cats as pets and the growing interest in animal welfare have led to an increased need for the latest treatments in feline veterinary medicine. Among these, veterinary regenerative medicine using pluripotent stem cells is gaining significant attention. However, there have been no reports on establishing feline embryonic stem cell (ESC) lines that possess the pluripotent potential and the ability to differentiate into three germ layers.

Gallbladder abscess is extremely rare. Aseptic abscesses are sometimes observed in patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC) with no history of colectomy; however, it is rare for an aseptic abscess in the gallbladder to develop after surgery for UC. We treated a 56-year-old man with UC and severe pouchitis who had undergone subtotal colorectal resection.

Introduction: In oral maxillofacial surgery, the nasal tracheal tube is mostly used to provide a better surgical field for oral, head and neck operations. Postoperative sore throat and hoarseness are common following tracheal intubation, with an incidence of 11-55%. Then, we previously reported advantage technique of fiberoptic scope to decrease the risk which the tip of the tube is visualized as the tube is advanced which helps avoid impingement of the tube.

Methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder of organic acids that causes various symptoms attributed to the accumulation of methylmalonic acids. We report the general anesthetic management of a 7-year-old girl with MMA who underwent periodontal treatment prior to kidney transplantation. One of our anesthetic goals was to maintain appropriate metabolism perioperatively, so we minimized her fasting time as short as possible and administered specially adjusted milk with simple carbohydrates preoperatively to reduce catabolism and promote anabolism.

This current case report describes a Japanese woman in her 80s with xerostomia who presented with salivary gland dysfunction. She was positive for isolated anti-Ro52/SS-A antibody as determined by a chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay and positive on a fluorescence enzyme immunoassay that recognizes both Ro52 and Ro60 antigens. A high serum concentration of anti-Ro52/SS-A antibody was determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Article Synopsis
  • - Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are valuable for regenerative medicine and drug discovery, but traditional two-dimensional cell growth methods have complications like needing specific skills for handling cells and extra steps to maintain them.
  • - This study introduces a new method that grows cells in three-dimensional spheres using a bioreactor, which eliminates the challenges of two-dimensional culture and avoids the need for enzymatic dissociation during maintenance.
  • - The streamlined three-dimensional approach simplifies the iPSC workflow, reduces variability and labor, and enhances the potential for future advancements in iPSC applications.

Article Synopsis
  • - A patient with colorectal cancer developed malignant spinal cord compression (MSCC) due to metastatic spinal tumors.
  • - Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is crucial for assessing the extent of the lesion, regardless of whether it is osteoblastic.
  • - Evaluating the risk of MSCC in patients with metastatic spinal tumors is important for proper management and treatment.

Companion animals, such as felines and canines, could provide an excellent platform for translational research from veterinary to human medicine. However, the use of feline induced pluripotent stems (fiPSCs) of quality in basic or clinical research has not been reported. Here, we generated footprint-free fiPSCs derived from embryonic cells, as well as juvenile feline uterus-derived cells using Sendai virus vector harboring six feline-specific pluripotency-associated genes.

Background: Repeated exposure to ultraviolet A (UVA) irradiation, which can penetrate the epidermis and reach the dermis, is one of the major causes of skin photoaging. Photoaged skin is characterized clinically by generalized wrinkling, a dry and loose appearance, and seborrheic keratoses, along with skin barrier dysfunction. Fucoxanthin, a xanthophyll carotenoid with a specific allenic bond and 5,6-monoepoxide in its structure, has been found to serve various functions as a food supplement.

Numerous studies have explored the connection between lumbar osteophytes, their pathophysiology, and instability since Macnab's 1971 report on traction spurs as an indicator of lumbar instability. This study provides a narrative historical overview of traction spurs, a classic finding that suggests lumbar instability. It summarizes the causes of anterior lumbar vertebral osteophytes, the relationship between traction spurs and lumbar spinal instability, and the clinical significance of traction spurs.

Lumbar interbody fusion (LIF) is a surgical procedure for treating lumbar spinal stenosis and deformities. It removes a spinal disc and insert a cage or bone graft to promote solid fusion. Extensive research on LIF has been supported by numerous animal studies, which are being developed to enhance fusion rates and reduce the complications associated with the procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • * A post hoc analysis was performed on data from a Phase 2/3 study involving 19 patients with iTTP, who received caplacizumab alongside other treatments for 30 days. Outcomes measured included recovery times for ADAMTS13 activity, platelet counts, and safety profiles.
  • * Results indicated varying recovery times for ADAMTS13 activity levels, with some patients experiencing "inhibitor boosting," which influenced recovery times and treatment responses. Most of these patients

Vibrio parahaemolyticus has two sets of type III secretion systems that are major pathogenic factors: T3SS1 (cytotoxicity) and T3SS2 (enterotoxicity). V. parahaemolyticus mainly colonizes the distal small intestine after oral infection and may be exposed to carbon-limiting stress due to the lack of readily available carbohydrates in this environment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and the antidiabetic drug metformin affect fibrosis (thickening and scarring) in the knee joint capsules of mice.
  • Researchers used two types of mice: normal (wild-type) and diabetic (db/db), with some receiving metformin treatment, and evaluated various fibrosis-related genes and proteins.
  • Results showed metformin reduced fibrosis-related gene expression and physical signs of fibrosis (like increased capsule thickness) in diabetic mice, suggesting it could be a potential treatment for knee joint capsule fibrosis linked to high blood sugar levels.

Article Synopsis
  • Retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma (RPLMS) is an uncommon tumor that typically appears as a significant abdominal mass and may present vague symptoms.
  • In a reported case, RPLMS was mistaken for an adnexal tumor in a woman, highlighting the challenges in diagnosis due to similar radiological features.
  • The distinction was made by identifying the right ovarian vein, which passed through the tumor without a direct connection, emphasizing the need to recognize vascular structures to differentiate between these conditions.
