Aims: This retrospective study compared the survival between elderly and non-elderly patients.
Methods: A total of 5545 treatment-naive patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who visited 7 different hospitals from January 2000 to December 2018 were included. Patients ≥80 years old were defined as elderly patients.
Background And Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term clinical course of patients achieving a sustained virologic response (SVR) with daclatasvir plus asunaprevir (DCV/ASV) therapy.
Methods: A total of 911 patients who achieved SVR with DCV/ASV were assessed. To evaluate pretreatment factors contributing to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after SVR, univariate and multivariate analyses were performed in all patients, in those with preexisting HCC, and in those without preexisting HCC.
We investigated the impact of C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) on predicting outcomes in 522 patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with lenvatinib. We determined the optimal CAR cutoff value with time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Additionally, we clarified the relationship between CAR and liver function or HCC progression.

Kidney diseases are a major health problem worldwide. Despite advances in drug therapies, they are only capable of slowing the progression of kidney diseases. Accordingly, potential kidney regeneration strategies with stem cells have begun to be explored.

However, the efficacy of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in patients who included those with advanced HCC and decreased hepatic functional reserve is unknown. A comparative examination was retrospectively conducted of 141 patients with hepatitis C who started DAA therapy within 1 year after undergoing curative HCC treatment and showed a sustained viral response (SVR) and 327 patients who underwent curative treatment for HCV-related HCC and did not subsequently receive antiviral therapy.

However, in general clinical practice, HCV infection remains usually screened by measurement of serum HCV antibodies and patients with SVR can be misunderstood regarding HCV infection status.
Methods: In the multicenter study, we conducted interviews with administered questionnaires to SVR individuals who had regular hospital visits after SVR.
In recent years, there have been several reports on robotic-assisted percutaneous coronary intervention (R-PCI), but few studies have been conducted on R-PCI performed under intravascular imaging guidance. To elucidate the periprocedural and postoperative 30-day outcomes of intravascular imaging-guided R-PCI, we performed a retrospective observational study on all patients in 102 consecutive cases who underwent R-PCI under intravascular imaging guidance at a single center in Japan from June 12, 2019 to February 18, 2021. The primary end point was 30-day survival, and the secondary end point was the incidence of complications.

We investigated how compensated cirrhosis and a history of curatively treated HCC influenced patient mortality after HCV eradication, that is, sustained virologic response (SVR).
Methods: We studied 5458 patients with confirmed SVR who were prospectively followed up for more than 1 year after SVR achieved with direct-acting antivirals.
This study aimed to evaluate tumor changes due to chemotherapy with temozolomide (TMZ) in terms of quantitative values measured by APT imaging and NODDI. We performed TMZ treatment (administered orally by gavage to the TMZ-40 mg and TMZ-60 mg groups) on 7-week-old male Wistar rats with rat glioma C6 implanted in the right brain. TWI, APT imaging, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and NODDI were performed on days 7 and 14 after implantation using 7T-MRI, and the calculated quantitative values were statistically compared.

However, as an intrinsically disordered protein (IDP) whose tertiary structure cannot be solved, innovative strategies are needed. We focused on its hydrophobic α-helix structure, defined as an induced helical motif (IHM), which is a possible interface for protein-protein interaction.

The aim of this study was to examine the cerebrovascular anatomy of cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis), which are one of the most commonly used primates in medical research on human diseases, such as cerebral infarction and subarachnoid hemorrhage. In this study, we investigated the anatomy and diameter of cerebral arteries from 48 cynomolgus monkey brain specimens.

In the present preliminary study, we examined the efficacy of a new, inhalable soluble epoxide hydrolase inhibitor (sEHI), 1-trifluoromethoxyphenyl-3-(1-propionylpiperidin-4-yl) urea (TPPU), to attenuate airway inflammation, mucin secretion, and hyper-responsiveness (AHR) in an ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized murine model. Male BALB/c mice were divided into phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), OVA, and OVA+TPPU (2- or 6-h) exposure groups.

Methods: A total of 317 patients with HCC treated with Atez/Bev were studied. We compared the survival and frequency of adverse events in elderly versus non-elderly patients with HCC who were treated with Atez/Bev using an analysis of inverse probability weighting (IPW).
Introduction: Several epidemiological studies have shown that silica exposure triggers the onset of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); however, the clinical characteristics of silica-associated SLE have not been well studied.
Patient Concerns: A 67-year-old man with silicosis visited a primary hospital because of a fever and cough. His respiratory condition worsened, regardless of antibiotic medication, and he was referred to our hospital.
It is important to determine the elemental content of scalp hair to evaluate human health and environmental contamination. Here, a new sample preparation method for total reflection X-ray fluorescence analysis was developed by directly digesting the human hair on the sample holder. A human hair sample was subjected to thermal nitric acid treatment for sample digestion and homogenization.

Moreover, the changes in bone microstructure between pre-dialysis and dialysis are unknown. High-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) reveals the three-dimensional microstructures of the bone.

The viral RNA-binding protein, Rex, is known to transport unspliced/incompletely spliced viral mRNAs encoding viral structural proteins out of the nucleus to enhance virus particle formation. However, the detailed mechanism of how Rex avoids extra splicing of unspliced/incompletely spliced viral mRNAs and stabilizes them for effective translation is still unclear.

Biomarkers should be established to identify patients who will respond to statin treatment to achieve clinical application. In the present study, we demonstrated that statins have a multifaceted mode of action in ovarian cancer and involve pathways other than protein prenylation.

Certain somatic mutations in mtDNA were associated with tumor progression and frequently found in a homoplasmic state. We recently reported that pyrrole-imidazole polyamide conjugated with the mitochondria-delivering moiety triphenylphosphonium (PIP-TPP) targeting an mtDNA mutation efficiently induced apoptosis in cancer cells with the mutation but not normal cells. Here, we synthesized the novel PIP-TPP, CCC-021-TPP, targeting ND6 14582A > G homoplasmic missense mutation that is suggested to enhance metastasis of non-small-cell lung cancer A549 cells.
