Surface plasmon polaritons in thin-film Weyl semimetals.

We theoretically investigate surface plasmon polaritons propagating in the thin-film Weyl semimetals. We show how the properties of surface plasmon polaritons are affected by hybridization between plasmons localized at the two metal-dielectric interfaces. Generally, this hybridization results in new mixed plasmon modes, which are called short-range surface plasmons and long-range surface plasmons, respectively.

The purpose of the present study was to observe the influence of the addition of angiotensin II (AngII) or nifedipine (NIF) alone or both sequentially on proliferative activity, the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration ([Ca(2+)]i), and the inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3) level in cultivated human gingival fibroblasts. Addition of 10(-8)-10(-4) M NIF or 10(-5)-10(-4) M AngII alone increased the proliferation of cultivated gingival fibroblasts, and the interaction of NIF and AngII suppressed proliferation.

The insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS) is characterized by the following diagnostic criteria: severe spontaneous hypoglycemia without evidence of exogenous insulin administration, high levels of total serum immunoreactive insulin, and the presence of a high titer of antiinsulin antibody. Just before the onset of IAS, 13 of the 35 (37%) patients with IAS examined in this study had taken methimazole for the treatment of Graves' disease. To investigate the difference between the Graves' disease patients treated with methimazole who developed IAS and other IAS patients, HLA class II genes in both groups were analyzed by serological and DNA typing methods.

A study of intracytoplasmic inclusions in myeloma cells from two patients with multiple myeloma.

Two cases of multiple myeloma which showed inclusions within the cytoplasma of myeloma cells were reported. One contained crystalline inclusions which were not stained by May-Grünwald and Giemsa, and the other contained Auer rod-like spindle shaped inclusions which were stained by May-Grünwald and Giemsa and PAS. A case of chronic lymphocytic leukemia that consisted of a homogeneous population of cells that had properties similar to those described for natural killer (NK) cells is presented. These leukemic cells had a morphology of large granular lymphocytes (LGL) and receptors for sheep erythrocytes (ER) and for the Fc portion of IgG (Fc gamma-R).
