Hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for patients with estrogen receptor α-positive breast cancers. However, although resistance occurs during treatment in some cases and often reflects changed estrogen receptor α status, the relationship between changes in estrogen receptor α expression and resistance to therapy are poorly understood. Radioprotective agents have been developed to protect patients against the damaging and lethal effects of ionizing radiation. However, in addition to the intrinsic ability to target reactive oxygen species (ROS), the ability to retain a significant level of bioavailability is desirable in radioprotective agents because that would increase and prolong their radioprotective efficacy and improve its safety. Here, we report the development of a novel nanoparticle-based radioprotective agent with improved bioavailability, which suppressed the adverse effects typically associated with low-molecular-weight (LMW) antioxidants.

How nutritional excess leads to inflammatory responses in metabolic syndrome is not well characterized. Here, we evaluated the effects of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid specific G-protein coupled receptor 120 (GPR120) activation on inflammatory pathways in adipocytes, and the influence of this process on macrophage migration. Using 3T3-L1 adipocytes, we found that agonizing GPR120 using its synthetic ligand, GSK137647, attenuated both basal and lipopolysaccharide-induced production of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2).

Purpose: Laparoscopic fundoplication (LF) has become a standard operative procedure for GERD-related diseases in Japan, although meta-analyses have mainly evaluated findings from Western countries. Introduction: It was reported that proton beam therapy (PBT) reduced the normal brain dose compared with X-ray therapy for pediatric brain tumors. We considered whether there was not the condition that PBT was more disadvantageous than intensity modulated photon radiotherapy (IMRT) and 3D conventional radiotherapy (3D-CRT) for treatment of pediatric brain tumors about the dose reduction for the normal brain when the tumor location or tumor size were different.

Elevation of intracellular Ca concentration induces the synthesis of N-arachydonoylethanolamine (anandamide) in a subpopulation of primary sensory neurons. N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD) is the only known enzyme that synthesizes anandamide in a Ca -dependent manner. NAPE-PLD mRNA as well as anandamide's main targets, the excitatory transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 ion channel (TRPV1), the inhibitory cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptor, and the main anandamide-hydrolyzing enzyme fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), are all expressed by subpopulations of nociceptive primary sensory neurons.
