Arthrobacter sp. strain KI72 grows on a 6-aminohexanoate oligomer, which is a by-product of nylon-6 manufacturing, as a sole source of carbon and nitrogen. We cloned the two genes, nylD and nylE , responsible for 6-aminohexanoate metabolism on the basis of the draft genomic DNA sequence of strain KI72.

Embryos of temnopleurid sea urchins exhibit species-specific morphologies. While Temnopleurus toreumaticus has a wrinkled blastula and then invaginates continuously at gastrulation, others have a smooth blastula and their invagination is stepwise. We studied blastula and gastrula formation in four temnopleurids using light and scanning electron microscopy to clarify the mechanisms producing these differences.

Protein phosphatase type 1 (PP1) is involved in the regulation of numerous cell functions in mammalian cells. The major isoforms of PP1 catalytic subunit (PP1C)alpha, gamma1 and delta have nearly identical catalytic domain, but they vary in sequences at the amino and carboxyl termini. We previously showed that PP1Calpha is highly expressed in rat hepatoma cells.
